Lush... it's a brand you either love or hate. Me? I love it. Though I don't love all products, I do have my fair share of favorites. I adore their masks, their acne treatment products, their Christmas gift sets, and their soaps. Yesterday I went to Lush in the Hague (Den Haag), and got me some goodies. I'm talking about their soaps. They had their annually promotions again, which meant 50% off at a large selections of products.

I got some Christmas gift sets for a few friends, and got myself 3 soap bars. I'm a big citrus lover, thus got myself the citrus scented ones: 'Northern Light' (a freakishly neon yellow 'un), 'Sexy Peel' (gosh it smells so good), and 'Bohemian' (very relaxing). Got one gift set with the soap 'Honey I Washed The Kids', and really regret not picking it up myself. It's on the list of "to buy" things already ;-).

What are your favorite Lush items?

An Unplanned Beauty Haul

These are the beauty bits I've bought in the past week since I've been in the Netherlands. I know I shouldn't be spending this much money on beauty (actually on anything), but I just couldn't not buy them as I got great deals on most of the items.

I know I'm a bit late to the YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat train, but I'm here, and I'm on it. I love the consistency, and the coverage of the foundation. I just don't see the dewiness when it's applied on my skin. As I have combination skin, I do need to powder my nose, chin, and between my brows (yes I do that, and more people should!). If not I look like a shiny, hot mess in a few hours - thank goodness for blotting papers (or soft tissues if you have to). I got it for around €34, as there was a 20% off at Douglas (a Dutch store specialized in beauty products, and fragrances) but a few days later I saw it on sale at, I felt like crying.

The two lippies are the YSL Glossy Stain in #11, and the Dior Addict Extreme in Plaza. Two lippies I already own in other colors, as I loved the formula so, so much. Was intending to get the Dior in Rivièra, as that color is gorgeous, but when I got home and opened the lipstick it said Plaza. Already applied it a few times when I noticed it, bummer. Love the color nonetheless.

On to the more skincare items, La Roche-Posay Effaclar DUO, and Formula 10.0.6 Down To The Pore Blackhead Banishing Pore Strips (jeez, they should make their product name shorter). Haven't tried the pore strips yet, will do that tonight as a pre-NYE pamper, but have been using the LRP moisturizer for the past three days. Because of all the stress, late nights/early mornings, and lots of (un)healthy food I broke out a bit on my chin. After reading tons of reviews, and ravings I thought I should give this 'un a shot, haven't noticed any changes in my skin though. Will keep you posted! Also repurchased the Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment, as I finished my Clinique one, don't like the Lierac one I got in Paris, and love me some moisturizing eye cream when it's winter.

What are your latest beauty buys?

7 Things I've Been Loving (December 2012)

It's almost the end of the month, thus time for my monthly favorites. Can't believe it'll be the last one this year already! The bits are a bit of a mix this month, very random. Varying from face to hands, to lips to nails to something totally beauty unrelated.

I absolutely adore all Marc Jacobs fragrances (the man himself is a genius), so this rollerball fragrance is the best thing ever. I'm not the person to lug around full size perfume bottles - never have, but do love smelling lovely. It's great for going out, and to just pop it in my purse/clutch. The staying power is nice, lasts quite a while, and it's a very feminine, yet "young" scent. Not too sweet, not too heavy, just perfect.

I'm pretty sure you've seen this name poppin around some blogs lately. It's a gorgeous plummy color, great for autumn winter! It's MAC's lustre formula, and very moist and glossy. Color wise it'd say it is very close to NARS Never Say Never Velvet Matte Lip Pencil, it's just not matte, and not as drying.

Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover | €9
I won't spend much time talking about this product as I've done an entire post about it. Simply have been using it loads, and will definitely continue using it!

Burt's Bees Lemongrass Cuticle Cream | €7.79 (now €5.84)
Ditto. Have to stretch that I lurrve the lemongrass smell!

Bepanthen | €8
In the winter I suffer from very dry hands, and my skin becomes very sensitive. I've gotten red patches, dry spots, and just irritated skin because of the cold air. I just pop this on the patch, let it sink in, and it's all better. Repeat when it feels itchy again. I also have a few pocket sizes which are in my pencil case, make up bag, and just in the front pocket of the bag I'm carrying at the moment.

Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blush 'Spicey' | €18.85 (now €15.08)
I'm pretty sure that I mentioned these before on my blog. I got two of 'em, and definitely will continue getting more colors as these are genius! They really stay on the entire day/night, don't budge, and have the most flattering, natural, and gorgeous colors. Spicey is very subtle, has a very natural shimmer in it, and is a peachy/pink shade. Basically looks like a natural blush, but better.

You've probably noticed me mentioning this website loads lately. That's because I cannot say anything bad about it. Alright maybe I do. But that's only regarding the stock level on some items (gone is gone), and the return policy (no free returns). Besides that, I'm one happy camper.

What have you been loving lately?

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

Finally the long awaited shoe haul. Two pairs from THEOUTNET sale, and one from the Maison Martin Margiela x H&M designer collaboration. I adore all three pairs, and they all fit like a glove. I'm not one to splurge on shoes that much, especially not getting 3 pairs of designer goodies, but I just felt that I'd regret it forever if I hadn't ordered them.

I know the lighting is a bit off, and the quality isn't too well. My camera died on me, it's charging at the moment, and had to take the pictures with the shabby iPhone 4S camera :-/.

Reed Krakoff - Metal-heeled Calf Hair Mules
DKNYC - Liz Leather Sandals
MMM x HM - Nude Invisible Wedge Pump

What do you think?

Merry Christmas!

Hohoho, Merry Christmas babes! I'd like to take this moment to thank you guys for sticking with me all this while, and hope you'll have a great time during the holidays!

I've been back in the Netherlands for two days now, and have to say I like it, but obviously miss Paris!

When I got home I still had my theoutnet order, and my MMM x HM nude pumps to unpack. So exiting, and can't say that this wasn't one of the best buys I've made this year. Best thing about it: everything fit like a glove and didn't had to be returned. Expect a post soon! Also, since I've been home (well... in these two days) I did some unplanned shopping, and splurged a bit on the beauty side. Oops. Got great buys though ;-).

Have loads of mullet wine, and have a great time with your beloved ones dolls!

Marvis Toothpaste - Worth the Splurge?

Marvis toothpaste retails approximately for €9, depending on where you buy it

I've used this for the past two months now, and as the tube is almost empty I thought it'd only be fair to do a review about it. I purchased the whitening version. I'll be very blunt, the product doesn't really make me all rambly about it. After the first two days I saw dramatic results, and my teeth were really (italic) whiter. After that I didn't see any result or difference anymore.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great toothpaste that makes me feel clean, and that has a great mint taste to it (I need a toothpaste with a heavy mint taste, so I feel clean ;-). Also the packaging is amazing. I mean: look at it. A vintage-ish looking tube, also available in different colors (which stand for the different ingredients/tastes).

But as only the taste, and packaging are the positive factors for me, I wouldn't repurchase this. It's simply not worth the extra pennies spend on the toothpaste in my opinion.

Have you ever tried Marvis toothpaste or are you planning to try it?

Bye-bye Cuticles

We all know it, the embarrassment when someone compliments you on your beautiful nail color, and then you feel their eyes burning on your dry, and not-so-attractive cuticles. Yep. Used to happen to me very frequently, until I bumped up into this amazing duo.

I'm talking about Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover and Burt's Bees Cuticle Cream, they literally changed my life. Before this, the only thing I'd do to "take care" of my cuticles was applying the Herome miracle pen once in a while (with that I mean once a month or so).

Now I apply the Sally Hansen cuticle remover once, or sometimes twice a week to get rid of the cuticle part that's there all dried up and being ugly. It's very easy to use. You just apply a generous amount of the product on your cuticles. I just finish the rest of my fingers, and then then gently push back the cuticles. Rinse it off with lukewarm "soapy" water, and done. I wait a minute or so, and then rub the Burt's Bees cuticle cream over the cuticles. It's a very nourishing cream that isn't sticky and I love the smell. I'm a great citrus fragrant lover, thus this citronella/lemongrass scent is a great plus in my opinion.

I often just rub the cuticle cream in whenever I are that my cuticles are getting a bit dry, or just when I'm watching a series, then I just rub it in and do nothing ;-).

This little combination basically is my once or twice a week home-mani now. Doesn't take more than 5-10 minutes. Easy, breezy, beautiful. Yep I just felt the need to quote Covergirl. No comment.

What products do you use to take care of your nails/cuticles?

Review: Chanel Joues Contraste Blush

I've featured this blush in my November favorites already, and blogged about it in my haul post, and I figured it's time to do a proper review. I won't say how much I love it, as I think my favorite post already covers that part ;-). The blush I'm talking about is 27 Rose Initiale. When Lisa Eldridge told me (well... us) that she used it on Keira Knigthley, and I saw how stunning that looked, I had to get it too.

The color is gorgeous, it's a very natural pink, which is perfect if you want to look like you don't have any make up on. There is a slight, very slight shimmer in the pan, but you barely notice it on the cheeks. It's not very pigmented, which makes it very blendable. It has a slight rosy scent to it. If you know how the Lancôme Dolls Eyes mascara smells like, the fragrance is similar. It comes in a velvet pouch, which I think is pure luxury. The packaging is their signature black plastic casing, which is very chic - if there are no fingerprints on. Inside there is a great mirror, which I use to put blusher on, as it's more focused on the face whereas the big mirror is just... well, big. I don't use the brush that comes with it, as I don't think it applies the blush nicely. I like to use my mini kabuki brush of Ecotools.

The staying powder good, it's still on my face after an entire day of university. I think it holds for about 8 hours, though I have to be honest, I didn't time it ;-). I made some pictures of me wearing the blush, but somehow my MacBook won't recognize the SD card or my camera, boo! Will try to see if I can get it uploaded soon, and post it as a FOTD.

All in all, I love it loads, and though it is very expensive, I'm definitely going to save up, and get another color. These are just great, and worth saving up for!

Have you ever tried a Chanel blush, and which color do you love the most?

Exams, Moving, and Internship Rambles

Yesterday was my last class this semester, this school year actually. Can't believe that this semester went by so fast in Paris, it's kinda scaring me. Tomorrow I'll start with my exams, I have 5 in total, which is squeezed into 4 days. I've been working on 3 different projects for the past few weeks, and had to pull some all-nighters this week to finalize everything, and make it perfect. Handed everything in yesterday, so now I can focus on studying. I probably won't have much time to write any blogposts next week, but I'll do my best to at least pop one, or two posts!

As my semester ends next week Thursday, it means that I'll move back to the Netherlands that same weekend. Really will miss Paris, but glad to go home for Christmas, and New Years to spend time with my family and friends. Won't have much time to relax, or stay home, because I'll move to my next destination where my internship is!

Initially I wanted to go to NYC, I mean... who doesn't? But things didn't all work out, and it just took too long to get things confirmed, so I decided to open up, and apply to companies in London, UK as well. At this point my placement in London is almost confirmed by my uni, which means I'll be spending the rest of the year in England! So motivated, and enthusiastic about my coming 6 months there, can't wait to explore the British lifestyle, fashion, beauty, and just everything that comes with the life there. Though I don't think I can appreciate bacon and eggs at 8 o clock in the mornings...

Just wanted to share this exciting news with you lovelies! I've been apartment hunting these past few days, but if you happen to be a Londoner: please do advise me on which areas are the best to live in. My internship will be in Chelsea, so I'd rather live close to that area :-). Tips are always welcome!

Have a lovely Sunday!

NOTD #4 | Feeling Spotty Today...

I'm a gal that likes to change up her nail polish every other day, though I'm aware it's not really good for the nails. However, I've been rocking this look for over 4 days already, so proud of myself. And, the polish is not even chipping!

What have you been wearing on your nails lately?

THE OUTNET Clearance

It's that time of the year again, the huge clearance of THE OUTNET. Hooray! As a fashion addict, and shopaholic myself, I have to admit that this post might be very dangerous - if you know what I mean ;-). The sale lasts for 6 days, and started yesterday, so 5 more days to shop. But be quick, just like all the items on there, when it's sold out, it's gone... for ever.

There are some great pieces, and a whole lot of 'em are reasonably priced, or ridiculously discounted. I've seen a whole lot of nice things, but unfortunately had to "remove" them again from my shopping basket.

You must be wondering whether I got something. Err, yes I did. Not clothing, not accessories, not bags. Nope. I got shoes! I'm not going to tell you which shoes, yet, as that'll spoil the surprise when I receive them. I sent them to my parental home, so it'll take a bit longer when I can show them to you guys. Expect a shoe post, as I also have to share my MMM x HM purchase with you dolls!

The only thing that I'll say about my purchase at THE OUTNET is that I had an amazing deal. Checking out for once was a pleasure, and made me feel less guilty about the money spent ;-)!

What will you get from THE OUTNET clearance?

Sephora Haul

I though I actually posted this, but apparently I didn't. Sunday, 2 weeks ago, I went to the new mall that's just 10 minutes by foot from my place and did some shopping. Oh boy, it's such a nice mall, and so pretty! It's been there for almost 2 months now, and has some very nice shops in there.

Of course I stopped by Sephora, and couldn't resist walking out without the red-string bag. I only got two small nail products that have been on my list for decades now, the Sally Hansen Insta-Dry top coat, and Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover.

I've only tried both products once, but am very impressed! Will test them out a bit more, and might pop a mini review of both of 'em on the blog.

Have you ever tried Sally Hansen products?

Bag Crush #2 | Kate Spade Little Nadine

image courtesy of Kate Spade NY

I know that lately I've not been crushing on bags that much (okay... if you don't count my Christmas wish list...). Anyho'. Yesterday I went to ebay, and started to randomly browse, and then the Kate Spade limited sale event caught my eye. I saw a lot of bags that I liked, but not necessarily adored, until I saw little nadine. Gosh she's so pretty!

It's the perfect size, color, and shape for me. I found my daily it-bag I think. I love the pop of pink, my only colorful bag is my mini M.A.C. (Minkoff) in teal. As I got the mini, it's way to small for everyday - great for going out though. So this little nadine totally fits perfectly in my needs. I can hang it across my shoulders, or hand hold it when I feel like it. It has a turn lock closure, and gold detailing.

Perfect, perfect, perfect! The best part? It's at 57% off on ebay right now, sold by Kate Spade themselves, making this beauty cost only $169 (original retail price: $398). Bargain! I'd order one immediately, it's just that they don't ship outside the States, and Canada. Bummer...

For my American, and Canadian readers, do check out the sale, there are some really cool items there. The sale ends December 11th, so hurry ;-).

Have you found a Kate Spade bag you fancy?

Review: Chanel Correcteur Perfection Concealer

I featured this product in a previous haul, and favorite post a while ago, and have worn it every day - literally.

It's a very lightweight, rather matte (but non-drying) concealer. I have combination/oily skin, and it stays on me perfectly the entire day. It's a great overall concealer, I love it for the redness on my chin, around the nose, slight hyperpigmentation on the cheeks, and the odd pimple. As it is non-drying it doesn't flake around the pimple (if it happens to be a bit dry), and is long-lasting even without powdering it.

I tried it as under-eye concealer, but I prefer my Laura Mercier Undercover pot over this one. Though it does a good job concealing the area(medium coverage), I have the lightest one of the yellow undertones (20), so it doesn't work as good as a pinked toned concealer. It's the usual story: pink combats the dark purple color we have under the eye, etc. etc. ;-).

The packaging is nothing special, or extraordinary. Just the usual 'lipgloss' concealer packaging, with the sponge tip applicator. It's plastic, and the body is matte, showing the color of the product. The color of this concealer matches my skintone perfectly. Though it might look scary on the swatch, it's very blendable, and do keep in mind that it's swatched at the part of my arm which is lighter than my face.

It may sound weird, but when applied, the concealer gives a soft look. Almost velvety if that makes sense. The result is very natural, and you barely can spot that you have concealer on at all! The product is available in 6 colors in the States, and UK, and 3 colors in the rest of Europe. The colors range from really pink to dark orange-ish, and retails for approximately $40, £26, €33 respectively.

Have you tried this concealer before, and what are your thoughts on it?

Ooh La La!

Have you seen the newest Louis Vuitton campaign yet? Louis Vuitton collaborated with street style bloggers Miroslava Duma, Hanneli Mustaparta, and Elin Kling to showcase their newest mini bag range. J'adore! It's such a fun, and cutesy video, the 'Ooh La La', and the background music totally helps creating the mood for the campaign.

I usually am a big bag kinda girl, but oh boy, these mini bags have converted me. If I had the money I'd get one of each! They all have a strap, which is great for when you're on-the-go all the time, and still want to look fashionable whilst not having to struggle carrying a fashionable bag. If I had to pick my favorite... err, no I just can't ;-).

What do you think of their "Small is Beautiful" campaign,
and which bag is your favorite?

December 3, 2012

Oh Santa...

When my mum asked me what I wanted for Christmas today, I couldn't answer her question. Because honestly I haven't been thinking much about the things I wanted. Unlike last year, where the Clarisonic MIA was on top of my wishlist (which I in the end got - sweetest parents of the world). Now, I really had to think for a moment, and still didn't really know what to ask for.

So I figured it was time to make a wish list, and thought I'd share it with you. Maybe it'll be a source of inspiration for those that are undecided about what to put on their wish list, or if you want to gather some inspiration for gifts for others. I did all my Christmas shopping already, and just need to grab my dad a good old wine from Lavinia, and then I'm all set :-).

I kept the list very small, and reasonable. I mean... I don't want to make my parents bankrupt, do I ;-)? Let me know if you'd like me to write a Christmas Gift post!

What would you like for Christmas?

Review: Avène Eau Thermale

I've been really enjoying this product, even though this wasn't featured in my November favorites post. I made a rule to only list 7 things, and I have to keep my word, otherwise the list is never ending ;-). So to show you what an amazing product this is, a short review about the product.

Some of you might remember me reviewing the Evian Facial Water Spray, that was such a raved up product back in the day, and to me it didn't do anything. Though this is also a similar product, I actually can feel the difference when sprayed on.

I really like the way the mist is sprayed over the skin, I can't really describe it, but the spray itself is different than the Evian one, or any other spray product. It allows the product to be distributed well over the skin, and doesn't tighten up the skin. Though this certainly isn't something that should replace your moisturizer, ever, it's great for a pick me up after a day of hard work. Sometimes when I have had make up on all day, I just blot with either a tissue, or my blotting papers, and then spray this on. My make up looks better, and I just get an instant boost, just like the Caudalie Beauty Elixir.

There is no scent to this, and suitable for all skin types. Is this a staple in everyones skincare routine? No. Do I recommend you getting this? Hell to the yes. It's not a product that you absolutely need to have (unlike primer, moisturizers, toners, etc. etc.), but if you have the money for it, just try it out. It's not expensive, and has 3 different sizes. I got the 150 ml for around €5.

Have you ever tried Avène Eau Thermale, and what did you think of it?

7 Things I've Been Loving (November 2012)

November has passed, so it's time for my favorites from the month already. Cannot believe how fast this month has gone, and cannot believe it's December first today! It means that I only have 3 weeks left, or to be precise 21 days in Paris. Though I'm having a blast here, I'm ready for my next step in my life, which is where ever my internship will take me ;-).

This month I've totally integrated my new French pharmacy buys in my skincare routine, and have to say my skin has been looking better than ever! Even got compliments from my mum, and aunt... while Skyping. So yes, these bits have been amazing to me, and cannot say anything bad about them.

Lancome Visionnaire Advanced Skin Corrector (not in shot) | €75 - €130
It's a serum that claims to reduce the appearance of fine lines, pores, and imperfections (uneven skintone). It's been on the market for a while now, and has received many raves on the blogging/Youtube world. Though I have put off trying this serum out ever since it's been out, I gave the serum a shot at the beginning of the month. I still had a deluxe sample laying at home, and decided to try it for a while, and see what I thought about it. But wow, I can really say it does work, and I don't say that very fast for anti-pigmentation serums. I've tried a fair share of "brightening" serums etc, and I've only found this one, and the Kiehl's Color Correcting Serum to work for me. Little goes a long, long way, and I've tried this exactly a month now. Some pigmentation have gotten lighter, and some even almost disappeared! I'm not very sure whether my pores have been minimized, but I'll keep you posted on that.

This has been on my "to try" list for a while (with while, I mean years), and have never gotten to try it. As it's almost impossible to find in the Netherlands, and always sold out in the pharmacy. And I can get why. I was lucky that last time I was able to snap up a bottle (unfortunately, when I got there today it was sold out again...)! As I said in the beginning, my skin has been so clear, and well this month, and I'm sure it's also because of this. It's organic rosewater, and smells like roses - duh. I definitely will repurchase this, and am saying sayonara to my Caudalie Beauty Elixer as toner. It is a staple for my on-the-go make up bag for refreshing purposes, but I just feel that rosewater is doing many good things for my skin at the moment.

Chanel Joues Contraste '72 Rose Initiale' | €37.50
When I saw Lisa Eldrige's make up look for Keira Knightley, I absolutely adored the blusher used on her, and was dedicated to get it in duty-free.  It is very buidable, and gives the healthiest rosy glow to my face. It's not the most pigmented, but that is alright, as you can build it up slowly, and doesn't give you a heavy make up look. It also has a slight rose scent to it, which disappears once applied on the skin. It's a rosy blush mixed with some peach, and flattering for most skintones. There is a slight shimmer in the blush, which is great for sporting the no-make up look.

I've used this mask 4 times now, and can say I really like it. Though I don't see major improvements, once removed my skin does look brighter, and smoother in a way. It doesn't irritate my skin, nor breaks me out, which is always the factor I'm most scared of.

I picked this up at duty-free as well, and cannot be more happy with this impulse buy! I've gotten many compliments from my female friends about how gorgeous it looks on me, and how natural it is. Basically it's a very easy wearable "nude" tone. I first wanted to get 'Incognito', but that was too brown toned, so I looked very sick. 'Chérie Bow' has a slight pink hue to it, which makes it so easily wearable.

Chanel Correcteur Perfection Concealer '20' | €32
Eh... I kind of feel awkward to say, but yes. Yet again another duty-free purchase, this one from CDG in Paris though! Have been using this one literally everyday. I tried using this as undereye concealer, but though it's alright, I love using my Laura Mercier Undercoverpot for this matter more. I think it depends on what shade you get, as I got the one that matches my skintone more (yellow) it's not as useful for the undereye area. I guess the pink one would do a great job neutralizing the grey/blue tones. It's great for blemishes, redness, or minor imperfections. I would say the finish is rather matte/velvety if that makes sense. Great when opting for a natural look, as the concealer doesn't cake.

MUJI Blotting Papers | €4 (approx.)
I have these for a while now, and have only really used them a lot this month, as I finished my old pack of blotting papers. I didn't expect anything of these, but they have impressed me quite well. It takes the shine away without dragging or removing my make up.
