Off I Go!

Tomorrow I will (finally) leave Paris for a few days, and go sightseeing in Normandy! I say finally, because I honestly want to see more of France now I'm here anyways. Paris is great, not complaining, but is almost getting common to see nice buildings if that makes any sense. Initially I wanted to go to St. Mont Michel, as I've been told it's gorgeous there. Unfortunately all hotels/hostels were book, and those that were free were ridiculously expensive. So I did some research, and stumbled upon the city Rouen. It's actually the capital city of Normandy, and it seems quite big, with quite nice sightseeing points. That's what Internet tells me.

I'm going with a friend who I met here, who is actually also Dutch, and comes from a small village close to where my parents live. So coincidental! Anyways, the hotel claims to have free wifi, so I'll see if I'm able to upload a post these days, if not, you know why! I'll return on Friday in the evening, and then will have to put all the dirty clothes in a tote, and head to bed. Why? Because on Saturday I'll head back home! So excited to see my parents, and sister again. Mom promised me some major shopping (okay, I added the major myself;-) time, which I'm reaaaaally looking forward to. And might take my lil' sis to a shopping trip to Primark.

So yes, just a little heads up/update on my coming week. Can't wait for duty-free shopping either, gotta review my wish list a bit ha ha!

What's the last trip you've been to?

Bare Them All

So lately I have actually been sporting the no nail polish look. For those that know me well, that is crazy, as I'm the kind of girl who changes her nail color at least once every other day. But I was a bit tired on the weekend, so I removed the polish, let my nails breathe... and just left them like this for these past few days. I did cheat a bit, as I applied a clear topcoat on top:-)

Back home I'd use the Herôme clear polish that would make the whites of your nails whiter, and the pinks of your nail well... pinker. Their Miracle Wonder Pen for cuticles, paired with that polish - the best combo ever. Silly me forgot to pack that Wonder Pen, and hence the dry cuticles. Scuzi!

What have you been wearing on your nails lately?

Review: Benefit 'go tropiCORAL' Kit + Swatches

I've bought this nifty little kit a few weeks ago, and honestly I can say that I've fallen head over heels over it. It is simply amazing! I've been using at least one thing in the kit everyday, ever since I got it. And that is crazy, as I like to change the make up products I use on a daily basis.

This kit contains of lip and cheek products, some tips and tricks on how to apply the products, and the little box itself can be used for storage of... I don't know, something. So what exactly is the kit. It's a four-piece lip and cheek kit that contains of Chachatint, High Beam, CORALista, and Ultra Plush CORALista.

My Battle With Acne

A lovely reader, Ellis, has requested this blog post, so here it is. With some delay, but I hope it's helpful for those that are (still) battling with acne. :-)

I have been dealing with acne for a long, long time. I got my first pimple when I was 10. It wasn't a small blemish, no it was a real pimple, just one day before school pictures were taken. Just my luck. I will divide the post into 2 sections. The first part will be my story, which, I hope, will give you some background information on me and my skin. And in the second part I'll go into more detail in the specific med's and things I used/did to "get rid" of the acne. Of course I still get the occasional pimple, you know that time of the month, but I don't mind that. Recently just got an acne attack - literally, but will come back to that later. And be warned, this is gonna be a long 'un!

To set things straight in the beginning, when I'm talking acne, I mean acne. A lot of bloggers, and youtubers are talking about their "acne", and then they mean that they had a few pimples for a year, or maybe 6 months. No, I'm talking about real acne, cystic acne, and all the hard-core stuff. I'm no expert, and don't have a degree in dermatology or whatsoever. No, I just have dealt with it for approximately 8 years now,  have learned a lot in trial and error, reading books, and reading information on credible blogs.

So where do I start. I started to get more, and more blemishes, pimples, or whatever you want to call them. I only had blemishes on my t-zone, nothing on my cheek area, nothing. Did have blackheads (still do). So I went to the doctor, because I was just so sick of it. He prescribed me the pill. Yes, we're talking about the anti-conception pill, and this one specially targeting acne. If I remember correctly it was called the YAZ pill, and was pretty new back then. I tried it, and after just 4 days, I got all cystic acne on my cheeks and chin. It was so, so bad. I felt so embarrassed, and just didn't want to go to school anymore.

To Buy or Not To Buy...

...that is the question I ask myself several times a day. I have been thinking about getting HUNTER boots for over a year now, and I still haven't made the jump. Why? I honestly have no idea. I guess I'm just afraid they won't suit me in a way. Recently they got into my radar again, and this time I'm crushing on the short Wellies in navy.

But I'm still very unsure whether to get them or not. I can get them for a good deal, so money is not the problem this time;-) My main concern actually is whether they will fit me. I'm not the tallest person in the world (1.64m), but do have longer legs than the upper-part of my body if that makes sense. I'm very afraid that it will look very silly. And as I don't really have the thickest calves, though I'm really gaining weight since I'm in Paris, I don't want people to see what color socks I'm wearing that day - if you know what I mean.

Oh the dilemmas a girl has to go through every day of her life. Gosh.

What do you think about these HUNTER Wellies, and what would you do?

MUJI | H&M Haul

So last weekend I did a bit of shopping. Well actually you can't really count it as shopping... it's more getting some necessary stuff ha ha;-)

I went to MUJI and got a mini bloc-note with to do tick boxes on it. Perfect for me, have been using it loads already. Another thing I got at MUJI was blotting paper. I just got it because I'm almost running out of mine. I tried it the other night, and I have to say I'm impressed! It doesn't take your make up off or anything, just the oil. For me I have to blot with another one, just to be sure to be shine free. But I'm an extreme case. I think it's a good product, and honestly didn't expect it at all!

Went to H&M to look for some black flats for nights out, as I totally ruined my Tommy Hilfiger ones during a rainy day. Instead I came out with a fun peplum/lace top (below), and some wedges. The wedges look great on me, though I say it myself. The down point is that it totally ruined my feet. The bone just below my big toe is swollen on both sides, and a bit bruised, and my heel is scraped open. When I got up the next morning, my heel was bleeding. Oh well, dried blood of course. No it wasn't me partying hard, and doing crazy things. Nope, it was most definitely the shoes. Schade. I hope it's just because I was wearing them for the first time, because I really like them!

So that was my haul. Also got some minor stuff that is not worth mentioning at all (like a spoolie, tights, mineral water, and cookies;-).

Have you been shopping lately?

L'Oréal Preference Wild Ombre Hair Kit

So lately this hair-dye from L'Oréal has been buzzing around the blogging world. Many of you sure do know the ombre/dip-dye trend, and know that I have been doubting whether to get one or not. I have been researching it a bit, and it is damn expensive! You have to get that I'm saying this because I barely spend any money on my hair. My hair is thick, well used to be thick - before I went to Paris. I didn't have to do anything to maintain its health, it just... well was good naturally. So I never spend tons of money on trips to the hairdressers. When I was researching for a good hairdresser, it would approximately cost me at least €200. It's a bit too much for me. So... is this kit the solution?

I honestly don't know. It sounds amazing, and reviews on blogs do say that it's easy to use. Even for the clumsiest people in the world - hello there!

There are 3 kits available. #1 for light/dark brown, #2 for dark blonde to medium brown, and #3 for blonde to dark blonde. The kit is available at Boots for £6.99. It is already out in some other European countries, and the L'Oréal site says it's sold in France as well. Haven't seen it around yet, but have to be honest that I'm not really going to "the drugstore" (aka Monoprix, yes the supermarket) that much in France. Couldn't really find a set price, I did see that the price is around the 10 euro mark, which is okay for hair dye. And an absolute bargain if you compare it to salon prices.

Am I going to get this and try it? Maybe. It's really tempting as I've seen a lot of pictures, and some do really look good! Let me know what you think, and please give me some advice on what I should do!

Have you guys tried this out yet?

And One More Thing...

...I have finally updated my 'About Me' page! So for the nosy ones, my entire auto-biography is on there. Just kiddin', would never torture you guys with that. ;-) Honestly, would not even be able to write that much about myself. But yes, if you'd like to know more about me, it's probably in there. Would like to know more? Be free to pop me a question in the comments!

Surprise, Surprise!

So, as promised a new vamped layout. Well... nothing major, but I do like it. You all know that I have been loving the color burgundy, so that was my inspiration for the color change. It does look quite good doesn't it?

Something else I'd like to share with you guys is that 'Raves 'nd Ramblings' is growing! I'm still going to be an independent blogger (or maybe better said rambler;-) writing my own opinions, but I got two offers. One is from a small online apparel company for a collaboration. Nothing big, nothing major. Basically I put their banner on my blog (still under construction), and they put my banner on their site to increase site traffic for both sides.

The other offer is from a Dutch PR company, who invited me to join their blogger network. What does that mean for me? Well, basically I get the opportunity to get invited to press events, product launches, and there might be a possibility to receive products for review purposes. This means that I'll be able to be more up-to-date on the fashion/beauty side, and most importantly, give you guys all the juicy details!

One thing that I want to set straight is that I won't be writing biased posts, I won't receive any money, and I will be just the same old me. Just with a better network behind me. If I happen to receive any goods for review purposes, I will note this down very clearly. I'm quite excited about this, and I hope you guys will be too. I wouldn't be here today without my lovely readers eh! ;-)

Thank you so much for sticking around, it means the world to me!

Designer Crush #2

Lately I've been crushing on this one brand that many, many of you will know. Without keeping you in the dark any further... it's 3.1. Phillip Lim. I adore absolutely everything of this designer. From his comic inspired collection, to its gorgeous Pashli Satchels (those are to die for - trust me).

The 3.1 woman is cool, contemporary and utterly feminine. A critical and commercial success, Lim's sophisticated aesthetic fuses understated luxury with a truly unique New York feel. Meet the demands of a modern wardrobe with clean silhouettes, understated palettes and innovative fabrics.
Source: net-a-porter.com

And that is the best way to describe what this brand is all about. They totally are describing me. I am the 3.1. woman! It's just that I lack the $$ to afford it... But yeah, there is a 3.1. woman inside, screaming to come out, and one day in the near future, she will. Here my favorite picks of the most recent collection.

PS. Aren't the comic inspired items to die for? And the bags, jackets, dresses, oh I see I'm rambling again... ;-)

Layout Under Construction... Again!

Hey ho, hey ho dolls! You might've noticed that I changed the header... again! I know, it's been there for a bit more than a month. But you know how much I love to play with design, and trying new things out. So I'll slowly adapt some things, and change the layout a bit. It won't be a major change, because I quite like the way it looks at the moment. But just some minor tweaks or maybe not. I don't know, still undecided. I'll see where time will take me! :-) A regular post coming soon!

What are you missing on my blog?

Paris through the lens...

... of eh, my iPhone. So last weekend I had my two best friends over from back home. I took them sight seeing, shopping and did a speedy Paris tour these two days. I thought it might be a fun post to read for my readers who've never been to Paris. Or just those who like to read about Paris;-)

So, on Saturday my friends arrived at 6.45 in the morning in Paris, which is when I had to pick them up. Very early indeed, but we managed just fine. We could crash for a few hours at my place, you know how difficult my landlady is, before we started our hardcore Paris tour. We had breakfast, baguettes avec fromage bien sûr! After that the tour began.

First stop? You guessed it right, the world famous Eiffel Tower! I didn't take many pictures of the places we've been to, because well... I already had my fair share of sightseeing around Paris. Been there for 4 times, and now I'm living here. But did snap some shots with my phone of the places I'd like to share with you guys. Enjoy!

All in all, I had the greatest time this weekend with my besties here. Thank you girls so much for coming by, it means the world to me:-) Too bad the weather was horrible, rain and clear blue sky on and off - more rain than blue sky though. Autumn has officially kicked in, and because of the weather changes I got the flu last week. My throat was sore the entire weekend, but I officially lost my voice yesterday. Not sounding any better today, though I feel less sick. Hope all of you are doing well, are healthy, and still have your voices!

Have you ever been to Paris before?

Topshop Sale Wishlist

I'm really in the mood of making wish list these days, so be prepared to see more 'wish list' kinda posts to pop up this month! I just love listing things in general, it makes me feel organized, and I just love crossing things out. Whether it's a shopping list or a to do list. I know I'm silly ;-)

But today I received an email, I'd love to receive every month: the Topshop sale started! Honestly didn't find all the items to my taste, which is a good thing I guess, but managed to find some good picks. It's a pity that all the good deals are sold out already. And that when it just started... this morning. Gosh, there are too many crazy shopaholics in this world haha! So yes, a few of my favorite picks in this seasons sale.

Are you planning to grab something in the Topshop sale?

MMM X H&M

I'm sure most of you have heard some buzz these days concerning the latest H&M designer collaboration, but yeah... that doesn't stop me from posting about it too;-) It is no other than the French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela!

The main focus of this collection is definitely coats, coats, and coats. Recently a few photos shot by photographer Sam Taylor-Johnson were leaked, and made me even more excited than I already was! I have to be honest, some of these items I wouldn't wear myself (or in daily life), but I have to admit that it does make the photos look pretty cool. There are some really nice items in their collection, and definitely worth saving for (the thing I'm eyeing at: shoes)!

The mentioned prices are in the currency RMB, which stands for Renminbi , the currency used in the Mainland, China (also know as Chinese Yuan). The collection will be sold online, and in selected stores from 15 November worldwide.

Which pieces are you putting on your wish list?

Essie Winter Collection 2012

I'm currently writing this while being influenced with a lot of flu meds, while wearing one sweater, a hoodie, and a body warmer on top. So, if a lot of nonsense comes out, you know what's wrong with me ;-) Gosh I'm feeling still very sick, and not getting better. Honestly, I feel like it's getting worse and worse.

One thing that made me smile was seeing the Essie winter collection of this year, aren't the colors absolutely gorgeous? As always, they hit it just right. The color palette is great for everyone, and I'm sure every girl can pick (at least one;-) favorite color!

My favorites? Be My Lady, Beyond Cozy, and Where's My Chauffeur. The Essie winter collection 2012 will be hitting stores this November!

Which color will you definitely be picking up?

Review: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

Excusez-moi for posting this review so late. It has been so hectic lately with life, school, just everything! My landlord is basically becoming more of an ass (apologies for the language), twitter followers might know what I'm referring to. I've just been given the assignment two days ago to conduct a huge research and hand it in within 2 weeks - the lecturer "forgot to tell us about it". Yeah, right. Thanks. Goodness, and then not to talk about the presentations, report deadlines, readings (with readings I mean a book per class), meetings, and just general homework. To sum it up: I'm trying to organize my life and time a bit better, because I barely can finish all the assignments/readings on time. And to make that all even worse, I seriously have been feeling horrible. My back is aching, my throat/ears/head ache as well. I think I'm getting the flu or the cold, big time.

But yes, today I'm finally going to compare two versions of the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizers (TMs), the regular and oil-free version. For those that haven't heard from Laura Mercier TMs, which I don't suppose, a short description of what the product is and does.

"This sheer, lightweight formula moisturizes the skin softening fine, dry lines, while adding a smooth, healthy glow to your complexion leaving a natural, dewy finish. Providing broad spectrum SPF 20 UVA/UVB sunscreen protection from the harmful, damaging rays of the sun, Tinted Moisturizer features an antioxidant vitamin complex that acts a free radical scavenger to protect the skin from even the most aggressive effects of the environment. Perfect for all skin types, Tinted Moisturizer is extremely long-wearing and remains colour true."

I'd like to first tell you a bit more about my skin, as it might have different effects on your skin type. I'm a combination skin girl, my skin tends to get shiny very fast, always use my Urban Decay All Nighter Spray on everything, suffer from hyper pigmentation, and luckily survived the many years of acne, and have been recovering from that.

So let's put it out here first, if you happen to either like medium-full coverage or want to cover up your acne/acne scarring, then don't buy this product. I intentionally bought it when I was 15, because I had heard so many great things about it. That time I was suffering from real bad acne, and yeah... when I tried it, I was so disappointed. If you happen to like light coverage, have good skin or don't mind some minor scarring/hyperpigmentation to show through, then read on!

Fall Fashion Wish List

Although the autumn in Paris is definitely a warm one (around 15-20 degrees, has been raining for the past few days though), the wind is still cold. And... when it's getting cloudy all the time, I tend to snug up in my warm knits and scarves. Or well, have the tendency to shop for them! Have been starting to get a bit sick I think as well. My head is aching and feeling very heavy if that makes sense. Also, starting to get a runny nose, and a very sore throat - no and that is not because of partying;-) Haven't really had the time to do any review or in-depth posts yet, because of the load of school work, but they will come soon. Promise!

So to cut the crap, and get to the point, I've been browsing online during some very boring classes, and have found some really cool things I'm definitely putting on my "To Buy" list. Will you believe me if I say that mine has been growing by the hour? Or no... I actually think by the minute, oh gosh.

As you might notice, the main color palette is still military green/olive, and burgundy. These colors just look flattering on most (would it be a bold statement to say all?) skin tones, and I just love the colors itself. And hey, one can never go wrong with black, grey, and beige - ain't that right? ;-) Apologies for the semi-ZARA-biased picks, I've just really been loving their clothes lately!

ZARA Twist Knit Frilled Jumper  | €49,95 |
ZARA Shiny Jumper with Frills  | €39,95 |
ZARA Combined Coat with Zip  | €179,95 |
Topshop Knitted Stud Rib Cardigan  | €62 |
Rebecca Minkoff M.A.C. Bombe Clutch  | €280 |
Prada Leather Tote  | €950 |
ZARA High-Heel Cowboy Ankle Boots  | €89,95 |

What is on your wish list?

Being a Parisienne

There are many ways to tell a story, and I've decided to not get to deep in the reasons why I'm not really happy here. I actually already wrote an entire post, covering this topic. How I am, what I did, what I'm loving, what I'm not loving. But I felt I got too carried away in the things that upset me, and while writing it... I just got upset again. So I've decided to delete it and re write it, hence it took a bit longer to post.

Paris has been great these weeks, have had a lot of fun, met a lot of nice people too. Went to a lot of little trips to explore Paris, and some events. Not homesick anymore, though I miss my family, but skyping with them almost daily makes up for a lot. When saying to people that I live in Paris sounds pretty cool, but oh boy the perks that come with living here...

Just last Thursday I went to the opening of BookMarc (Marc Jacobs stationary and books franchise) in my 2 hour break with a friend. We got our book signed by the photographer of the book, Brian Owen Smith, and two models that were photographed in there! Also popped into the Marc by Marc Jacobs store as well, which resulted in walking out with a bag unfortunately for my bank account. ;-) Also, I've bought my ticket to the Florence and the Machine concert! They are going to be here the 27th of November. I'm a huuuuge fan of their music, so I'm stoked that they give a concert in Paris!

Marc by Marc Jacobs, GAP & Sephora Haul

For those that are following me in twitter and Instagram might have seen some pictures of me, and my shopping trip to the Marc by Marc Jacobs store, and to Boulevard Haussmann. I had a great time there in the store. It's like my dreamland, my heaven. At Marc by Marc Jacobs I walked out with a tote bag and a simple necklace. Of course I wanted more, but managed to refrain myself;-)

At Boulevard Haussmann I got something at the GAP sale, a wooly color blocking jumper, which is oh so warm and comfy! When I walked to Sephora I checked out the newest Balenciaga perfume once again, and confirmed my choice - I'll get this gorgeous smelling perfume on my way back home:-) Also some other YSL products, but don't want to spoil the surprise ha ha.

I walked out with a small bag containing a travel size Ojon shampoo for damaged hair. My hair has been quite damaged because of the French water I think. So I hope that this shampoo can nourish my hair (will grab the conditioner later, it was out of stock)! The other thing I got was the tropiCORAL kit from Benefit. I absolutely adore it and have been using it almost everyday! A review will come soon;-)

So that was it, now I really need to stop shopping and start saving money. Too bad it's easier said than done...

What have you been buying lately?

FOTD #2 - Red Lips

Today I was in a real hurry this morning so I just slapped on some minimal make up, and even forgot to do my brows. Only realized when it was the end of the day - oops. By the way, I look very pale in this picture, not sure why, must because of the sun outside. Yes there is sun, only for now. The weather forecast is predicting lots of rain starting Thursday. And yes, autumn is also coming to Paris!

After uni I went to Saint-Lazare, which is one of the largest metro/RER/train stations in Paris. It's very close to many shops, and I popped into Sephora to try some new lipstick colors. I was looking for red's and orange's but, this one appealed to me the most. Very chic, and didn't made my teeth look yellow! I think this is the one... Definitely putting this on my "to buy list" when I go to the airport. Hello tax-free shopping! Oh, and then I went to buy a USB stick at FNAC, which was actually my intention for the trip. Ha ha, I'm hopeless when there is beauty around!
