No Pain, No Gain

Living abroad in the past year has given me many things. Great experiences, fantastic friends, superb beauty buys and maybe the thing that reminds me off my past journey the most: the unmissable weight gain. Before you start with the "I'm sure you're just exaggerating" - I'm not. The scale doesn't lie and it tells me I've gotten 7 - 8 kilos heavier than I left for London, which is already 11 months ago (where did the time go!?). I thought you might be interested to accompany on my journey to lose the 'excess' weight on a healthy and responsible way.

REN F10 Smooth & Renew Mask

After indulging in a few too many chocolate Santa's my skin post-Christmas has been a bit congested. My most effective method is my 3 step treatment: exfoliating, clarifying and moisturising, where the first step might be the most important one of all. With many exfoliating masks in the market, REN F10 Smooth & Renew Mask has become my favourite. Gentle, effective and resulting in skin as smooth as a baby's bum - without the diaper rash, obviously.

Give Me a Cuppa

Tea is one of my favourite (hot) drinks, not only because it smells fantastic, but also because of the health benefits it has. Now I'm not talking about the packs of Twinings tea (I do love my Lemon & Ginger and Lady Grey),  but about tea that is brewed from dried tea leaves. As China is one of the best places to get quality and different kinds of tea (I may or may not be a bit biased), I've stocked up on different types of teas when I visited this summer. There are a gazillion sorts of teas which are separated in different categories, where each kind has its own health and beauty benefits. And, errr... when I say different I'm not talking about the different kinds of fruits that are infused in your pyramid-like teabag.

Modern Manners

Lately I've been really interested in etiquette books and with a shout-out from the girls at Man Repeller, I simply had to get Modern Manners. Written by Dorothea Johnson, the person you need to listen to when talking etiquette and Liv Tyler, Dorothea's granddaughter. Together they've teamed up and written down a little book with all things you ought to know regarding etiquette and manners in modern daily life. It was the cover and the name that grabbed my attention, but the inside is not so bad itself. Not at all...

Ancienne Ambiance Reed Diffuser

Merry Christmas y'all! I thought I'd write about something else than beauty to keep the Christmas spirit up (yeah... I don't really see a correlation either, working on that). Although it is quite rare for me to talk about home or lifestyle products - yes, I know 95% of my blog is about beauty - I really enjoy the company of gorgeously home-scents and room decorations. Ancienne Ambiance is a brand I've used ever since I lived in London after I had tried their soaps (I love to put in my closet between my clothes) and recently they launched a range of Reed Diffusers. With my previous experience of their products, I kinda expected already that they wouldn't disappoint me in any way.

So if you've had enough boring family chit-chat, do check back tomorrow as a new post will be awaiting you in the morning.

All Good Things Come In Pink

When Homeoplasmine made its first appearance in the BeautyMart halls, it made its first appearance on my to buy list. Surely a lot of products enter my to buy list (on a daily basis even), but a multi-purpose cream that would perhaps even beat my beloved NUXE lip balm and something that's been dubbed the pharmacy version of the cult Eight Hour Cream? Now those words intrigued me. What can I say... Once a product is on my radar, I've got to have it.

EcoTools Fresh & Flawless

I've had my fair share of make up brushes, whether it's from the drugstore or high end - I've tried them all. However, one brand that was both affordable and great in quality is EcoTools. Having discovered them a few years ago, I've been loving their brushes for a long time now. Their Fresh & Flawless set is just another example of why their brushes are brilliant and it's simply a great last-minute Christmas gift.

Just In: b2beauty Sknrg

With my on-going love for honey, I've stumbled on yet a new brand that uses honey as one of their main ingredients. b2beauty is a British brand that believes that skincare should be as organic as possible, and most of their products are 98% certified organic, if not more. I've been trying out their latest range Sknrg for the past few days now, and I can say that besides the brilliant company values, their products speak to my heart as well.

L'Oréal Professional Hair Chalk

Doing something drastic with my hair has always been on my bucket list to do, especially something that involves dye. Pink dye. Sadly for me, as an almost Communication graduate, I'll have to do my thesis at a company and I'm not quite sure how acceptable they'd be with a PR representative with My Little Pony locks. So that where L'Oréal Professional Hair Chalks come in. I obviously got the hot pink shade (Sweet Sixteen).

Pai Rosehip Facial Collection

With an unhealthy appetite for anything labeled 'rosephip' and 'facial' I knew it wouldn't take long before I had my hands on the Pai Intensive Nourishing Facial Limited Edition Rosehip Collection from their Christmas gift sets. For some it might look odd to give myself a Christmas gift (which I am opening before Christmas even), but I see it as a small yearly treat that I deserve very well. Especially with my hectic schedule for the past two months my skin has been screaming for a proper pamper. And that is just what the Rosehip Collection brings (and more).

OV Naturals Purifying Tea Tree Facial Oil

I know you must be pretty darn tired of me rambling on about my skin. #sorryimnotsorry While years ago, someone kept whispering in my ear that Tea Tree is great (their words, not mine) for treating acne-prone skin, I've learned the hard way that my skin doesn't quite agree with that particular statement. Being know as a purifying oil, most of the time it's also forgotten that it's very aggressive, making me stray away from anything labeled "tea tree". However, with my recent discovery of OV Naturals Purifying Tea Tree Facial Oil, it might've changed my opinion for the better.

Oh Isabel Marant, you've done it again... I completely forgot about blogging this as these pieces have found a spot in my closet already for a long while, but thought it might be nice to show it to you anyways. Like the saying goes, better late than never. I didn't go all out as I didn't find that many pieces attractive or something I'd wear on a daily basis. I did order the Silk Dress (which Rosie H-W) rocked, but I felt it wasn't really age appropriate for me (i.e. I looked like a librarian). But yes, the pieces that I did get, I'm very happy with and can see myself wearing to Uni, work or when shopping (more after the break).

LAUREN by Ralph Lauren Citrus Lily Candle

I love to have candles all year around, but when the temperature starts to decrease, it kinda becomes a daily staple. While I adore fig and wood scented candles for autumn, I won't say no to a relaxing and floral scent either. LAUREN by Ralph Lauren Citrus Lily Candle is one that fits the latter category. I'm telling you, this has been my study buddy for the past week and manages keeps me on my toes.

Bleach(ed) Hair

I've always wanted to dip-dye my hair in a funky colour, but have yet to find the courage to actually do it. It's the bleach that scares the living daylight out of me. As I have very dark brown-to-black hair, it's impossible to get any colour showing on my locks properly without bleaching it. With the recent launch of Bleach London's at-home dye and bleaching kit, this just made the butterflies in my belly twist and twirl. With a collage of 'dos I really fancy, I hope that I'll gain enough courage to book in for a 'Bleachenders' job soon. Who knows... I'm kinda in the 'new year, new hair' vibe.

What I've Been Loving (November 2013)

With autumn being in full swing, I've had the berry blues throughout the month and have been amping up the moisturiser volume. It's been a super hectic and busy month full of deadlines and assignments to hand in that made taking good care of my skin a very difficult task, hence I've sought comfort in my trusty 'ol skincare products that take just a few minutes to give what your skin had been longing for. No one wants to have dry, flaky skin when taking those yearly family pictures, n'est-ce pas? And that berry lipstick - a definite must to distract the attention from those puffy, dark under-eye circles.

Christmas Gift Guide #3 - Stocking Fillers

The last post of my Christmas gift guide series: the stocking fillers. For me, this might be the most fun part: looking for small gifts to treat my mum, sister, aunt and friends. There are so many options available that it's actually very hard to limit myself, but I still managed to not go too overboard and select a few stocking fillers that I personally would love to get as well. From a book to skincare from Christmas crackers to beautiful sets - I've covered it all, and that all under £20.

As a beauty junkie, I obviously had to track down the best beauty treats on the market that still are a good bargain and an amazing gift to receive. This while channeling my inner bookworm, by selecting quite a few cool books that would suit anyone and some beauty bits that would make anyone's heart flutter. This is so gonna be a merry Christmas!

Have you started your Christmas shopping already?

Just In: New Skincare Additions

Over the years I've transitioned from a make up lover to a real skincare junkie, quite literally. I just realised that slapping on make up won't make skin look better when you don't treat your skin (the foundation) with nice products, which is where natural products come in. As you all most probably will know, REN is one of my favourite 'nasties-free' brands and I've featured them a gazillion times on the blog. Oskia on the other hand is a completely new brand to my stash (and radar!). With the tremendously positive reviews on their latest release, I bit the bullet and had to check it out myself.

While in Summer I prefer to have my brows done 'eau naturel', in Autumn I feel rocking a bolder brow. I'm not talking Cara Delevingne-esque brows, because I would totally look like a wild boar gone wrong. Bold in my books is having more defined brows and maybe a tad darker. For as long as I can remember I've been struggling with my brows, and as I got older (and my palette, knowledge in beauty got more sophisticated) I discovered some staples along the way. I'm telling you, my brows would be lost (and super messy) without.

Although I am not much of a hair fanatic, the SASCHA JUAN craze has gotten to me. Okay, maybe I'm a bit biased as I'm obsessed with anything Scandinavian (it's a Swedish brand). But its very simple and yet chic packaging is just my cup of tea. Normally I just have a few criteria for my hair products: leave my hair clean for more than a day, don't weigh my hair down, not too heavily perfumed and don't make my hair appear flat. That's all.

A Few Steps to Clear(er) Skin

I know I've been overloading you guys with posts regarding how I've been trying to clear up my skin. Having received quite a few emails after my Current Skin Saviours post, I decided to make a short list of things you need to take into account when you're suffering from break outs, as only changing your skincare won't be enough. These guidelines vary from skincare to eating habits. I've seen great results in the past 6 weeks in my skin when trying to 'follow' these guidelines accompanied with new skincare. Of course it doesn't mean your skin will become immaculate immediately, but a healthier lifestyle is always a plus and like the old saying goes: you are what you eat. Oh, just read on.

When my skin basically got completely bonkers, I had to go back to basics with my skincare routine. Meaning: only natural products, no added night treatments and it had to be something French. Why? Because when I was living in Paris, only natural and French pharmacy products touched my face and that was when my skin looked it best. So after almost emptying my entire bank balance, I'm finally on the good track to clear(er) skin.

Sadly, I never got the chance to test it out (my mum is kind of a neat freak) and had to grow up with a big question mark through life. Okay, maybe a tad exaggerated, but I'm sure everyone did wonder how it would be like to shower yourself in a fuzzy drink. And I think I found my answer after 20 freakin' years.
