No Pain, No Gain

Living abroad in the past year has given me many things. Great experiences, fantastic friends, superb beauty buys and maybe the thing that reminds me off my past journey the most: the unmissable weight gain. Before you start with the "I'm sure you're just exaggerating" - I'm not. The scale doesn't lie and it tells me I've gotten 7 - 8 kilos heavier than I left for London, which is already 11 months ago (where did the time go!?). I thought you might be interested to accompany on my journey to lose the 'excess' weight on a healthy and responsible way.

REN F10 Smooth & Renew Mask

After indulging in a few too many chocolate Santa's my skin post-Christmas has been a bit congested. My most effective method is my 3 step treatment: exfoliating, clarifying and moisturising, where the first step might be the most important one of all. With many exfoliating masks in the market, REN F10 Smooth & Renew Mask has become my favourite. Gentle, effective and resulting in skin as smooth as a baby's bum - without the diaper rash, obviously.

Give Me a Cuppa

Tea is one of my favourite (hot) drinks, not only because it smells fantastic, but also because of the health benefits it has. Now I'm not talking about the packs of Twinings tea (I do love my Lemon & Ginger and Lady Grey),  but about tea that is brewed from dried tea leaves. As China is one of the best places to get quality and different kinds of tea (I may or may not be a bit biased), I've stocked up on different types of teas when I visited this summer. There are a gazillion sorts of teas which are separated in different categories, where each kind has its own health and beauty benefits. And, errr... when I say different I'm not talking about the different kinds of fruits that are infused in your pyramid-like teabag.

Modern Manners

Lately I've been really interested in etiquette books and with a shout-out from the girls at Man Repeller, I simply had to get Modern Manners. Written by Dorothea Johnson, the person you need to listen to when talking etiquette and Liv Tyler, Dorothea's granddaughter. Together they've teamed up and written down a little book with all things you ought to know regarding etiquette and manners in modern daily life. It was the cover and the name that grabbed my attention, but the inside is not so bad itself. Not at all...

Ancienne Ambiance Reed Diffuser

Merry Christmas y'all! I thought I'd write about something else than beauty to keep the Christmas spirit up (yeah... I don't really see a correlation either, working on that). Although it is quite rare for me to talk about home or lifestyle products - yes, I know 95% of my blog is about beauty - I really enjoy the company of gorgeously home-scents and room decorations. Ancienne Ambiance is a brand I've used ever since I lived in London after I had tried their soaps (I love to put in my closet between my clothes) and recently they launched a range of Reed Diffusers. With my previous experience of their products, I kinda expected already that they wouldn't disappoint me in any way.

Merry Christmas!

Ho, ho, ho! An early Merry Christmas and have a wonderful Christmas Eve! Please don't throw rocks at me for my drawing skills, I ain't no Picasso. You better not know I was an art major back in the day... oh well. Just a super short post for now, but I'll be back tomorrow with a long(er) 'un. So if you've had enough boring family chit-chat, do check back tomorrow as a new post will be awaiting you in the morning.

All Good Things Come In Pink

When Homeoplasmine made its first appearance in the BeautyMart halls, it made its first appearance on my to buy list. Surely a lot of products enter my to buy list (on a daily basis even), but a multi-purpose cream that would perhaps even beat my beloved NUXE lip balm and something that's been dubbed the pharmacy version of the cult Eight Hour Cream? Now those words intrigued me. What can I say... Once a product is on my radar, I've got to have it.

EcoTools Fresh & Flawless

I've had my fair share of make up brushes, whether it's from the drugstore or high end - I've tried them all. However, one brand that was both affordable and great in quality is EcoTools. Having discovered them a few years ago, I've been loving their brushes for a long time now. Their Fresh & Flawless set is just another example of why their brushes are brilliant and it's simply a great last-minute Christmas gift.

Just In: b2beauty Sknrg

With my on-going love for honey, I've stumbled on yet a new brand that uses honey as one of their main ingredients. b2beauty is a British brand that believes that skincare should be as organic as possible, and most of their products are 98% certified organic, if not more. I've been trying out their latest range Sknrg for the past few days now, and I can say that besides the brilliant company values, their products speak to my heart as well.

L'Oréal Professional Hair Chalk

Doing something drastic with my hair has always been on my bucket list to do, especially something that involves dye. Pink dye. Sadly for me, as an almost Communication graduate, I'll have to do my thesis at a company and I'm not quite sure how acceptable they'd be with a PR representative with My Little Pony locks. So that where L'Oréal Professional Hair Chalks come in. I obviously got the hot pink shade (Sweet Sixteen).

December 11, 2013

Just In: Therapi Lemon Myrtle

So with my addiction going on for natural and organic products, I've found a new brand that has once again joined my ever-growing family in my beauty cabinet. Therapi is a recently established UK brand that has incorporated honey as a main ingredient in all of their products. And if you have been following me for a while, you do know I luuurve my honey.

Rene Furterer Complexe 5

By now I doubt that it's a surprise to you that I love all things French pharmacy related. While I am dipping my toes into the hair care world, I spotted Rene Furterer as a must try hair care brand in the industry. Without further ado I researched my way through his products and stumbled upon one that would fit my situation perfectly, that is the Complexe 5. First impressions: lemon in a bottle.

Pai Rosehip Facial Collection

With an unhealthy appetite for anything labeled 'rosephip' and 'facial' I knew it wouldn't take long before I had my hands on the Pai Intensive Nourishing Facial Limited Edition Rosehip Collection from their Christmas gift sets. For some it might look odd to give myself a Christmas gift (which I am opening before Christmas even), but I see it as a small yearly treat that I deserve very well. Especially with my hectic schedule for the past two months my skin has been screaming for a proper pamper. And that is just what the Rosehip Collection brings (and more).

OV Naturals Purifying Tea Tree Facial Oil

I know you must be pretty darn tired of me rambling on about my skin. #sorryimnotsorry While years ago, someone kept whispering in my ear that Tea Tree is great (their words, not mine) for treating acne-prone skin, I've learned the hard way that my skin doesn't quite agree with that particular statement. Being know as a purifying oil, most of the time it's also forgotten that it's very aggressive, making me stray away from anything labeled "tea tree". However, with my recent discovery of OV Naturals Purifying Tea Tree Facial Oil, it might've changed my opinion for the better.

Isabel Marant Splurge

Oh Isabel Marant, you've done it again... I completely forgot about blogging this as these pieces have found a spot in my closet already for a long while, but thought it might be nice to show it to you anyways. Like the saying goes, better late than never. I didn't go all out as I didn't find that many pieces attractive or something I'd wear on a daily basis. I did order the Silk Dress (which Rosie H-W) rocked, but I felt it wasn't really age appropriate for me (i.e. I looked like a librarian). But yes, the pieces that I did get, I'm very happy with and can see myself wearing to Uni, work or when shopping (more after the break).

LAUREN by Ralph Lauren Citrus Lily Candle

I love to have candles all year around, but when the temperature starts to decrease, it kinda becomes a daily staple. While I adore fig and wood scented candles for autumn, I won't say no to a relaxing and floral scent either. LAUREN by Ralph Lauren Citrus Lily Candle is one that fits the latter category. I'm telling you, this has been my study buddy for the past week and manages keeps me on my toes.

Bleach(ed) Hair

I've always wanted to dip-dye my hair in a funky colour, but have yet to find the courage to actually do it. It's the bleach that scares the living daylight out of me. As I have very dark brown-to-black hair, it's impossible to get any colour showing on my locks properly without bleaching it. With the recent launch of Bleach London's at-home dye and bleaching kit, this just made the butterflies in my belly twist and twirl. With a collage of 'dos I really fancy, I hope that I'll gain enough courage to book in for a 'Bleachenders' job soon. Who knows... I'm kinda in the 'new year, new hair' vibe.

What I've Been Loving (November 2013)

With autumn being in full swing, I've had the berry blues throughout the month and have been amping up the moisturiser volume. It's been a super hectic and busy month full of deadlines and assignments to hand in that made taking good care of my skin a very difficult task, hence I've sought comfort in my trusty 'ol skincare products that take just a few minutes to give what your skin had been longing for. No one wants to have dry, flaky skin when taking those yearly family pictures, n'est-ce pas? And that berry lipstick - a definite must to distract the attention from those puffy, dark under-eye circles.

Christmas Gift Guide #3 - Stocking Fillers

The last post of my Christmas gift guide series: the stocking fillers. For me, this might be the most fun part: looking for small gifts to treat my mum, sister, aunt and friends. There are so many options available that it's actually very hard to limit myself, but I still managed to not go too overboard and select a few stocking fillers that I personally would love to get as well. From a book to skincare from Christmas crackers to beautiful sets - I've covered it all, and that all under £20.

As a beauty junkie, I obviously had to track down the best beauty treats on the market that still are a good bargain and an amazing gift to receive. This while channeling my inner bookworm, by selecting quite a few cool books that would suit anyone and some beauty bits that would make anyone's heart flutter. This is so gonna be a merry Christmas!

Have you started your Christmas shopping already?

November 27, 2013

Christmas Gift Guide #2 - Dad

While I love shopping for others, getting my dad the right gift always remains tricky. Mainly because he always seems to have the things I want to get him. After a good peruse in the house and a good brainstorm session with my dearest sister, I've got a selection of grooming, books, cooking and tech gifts that all dad's (hopefully!) will like.

November 25, 2013

Christmas Gift Guide #1 - Mum

I've always had the greatest joy to pick my mum's Christmas gifts as I let my self to go all out and give her a good pamper. We're very different and alike at the same time, which makes it so much more fun to pick a 'good' gift. So I've put together a few bits that I think most mum's would love to receive, and to be honest, it's the thought that counts.

My Christmas Wish List

It's the end of November already, and it's the time where I allow myself to get excited about Christmas - what I should give others and what I would like to receive on my favourite holiday of the year. So here it is, my (rather cheeky) wish list for Santa. Obviously some of the things in here are a tiny bit expensive, but hey, Christmas is the season when you buy this year's gifts with next year's money after all, right?

Just In: New Skincare Additions

Over the years I've transitioned from a make up lover to a real skincare junkie, quite literally. I just realised that slapping on make up won't make skin look better when you don't treat your skin (the foundation) with nice products, which is where natural products come in. As you all most probably will know, REN is one of my favourite 'nasties-free' brands and I've featured them a gazillion times on the blog. Oskia on the other hand is a completely new brand to my stash (and radar!). With the tremendously positive reviews on their latest release, I bit the bullet and had to check it out myself.

November 18, 2013

The Bold(er) Brow

While in Summer I prefer to have my brows done 'eau naturel', in Autumn I feel rocking a bolder brow. I'm not talking Cara Delevingne-esque brows, because I would totally look like a wild boar gone wrong. Bold in my books is having more defined brows and maybe a tad darker. For as long as I can remember I've been struggling with my brows, and as I got older (and my palette, knowledge in beauty got more sophisticated) I discovered some staples along the way. I'm telling you, my brows would be lost (and super messy) without.

November 17, 2013

Obsessed With... SASCHA JUAN

Although I am not much of a hair fanatic, the SASCHA JUAN craze has gotten to me. Okay, maybe I'm a bit biased as I'm obsessed with anything Scandinavian (it's a Swedish brand). But its very simple and yet chic packaging is just my cup of tea. Normally I just have a few criteria for my hair products: leave my hair clean for more than a day, don't weigh my hair down, not too heavily perfumed and don't make my hair appear flat. That's all.

November 15, 2013

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser

While most of you opt for high(er) coverage foundations when the weather starts to cool down, I strangely enough go for the sheerer products, where tinted moisturisers are my forté. With my combination/oily skin, and army of choices, NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser is often the one that ends up on my face. Having used this more than ever lately, I realised it's time to add my two cents to the table.

November 13, 2013

Just In: Japanese Skincare

If you've read my holiday haul post, you know I can get quite excited whenever Asian skincare is involved. Not only are they good quality and affordable, they know what my skin is craving for and maybe the fact that it's basically impossible to get in Europe adds the 'want' factor to it. I particularly am in love with Japanese skincare with their great technologies. And if we all are honest, those Japanese girls are the fairest of 'em all.

November 11, 2013

5 Product Face

I'll admit it, I'm a huge beauty lover, but sometimes I have those lazy days and then for me: less is more, in the sense of doing less is better or well... you know what I mean. We all know that faking the eau naturel look is incredibly difficult and takes lots of effort when compared to, let's say, the 'cake face', but I managed to find no less than 5 products that can prep me for those lazy days and be public worthy at the same time.

November 9, 2013

Spritz Me Beautiful

Though I know for many of you, toners are something that's either a hit or miss - for me it's a vital step in my routine. Toners are the step right after the second cleanse and before your treatment/moisturiser. There are tons of different types, brands, scents, and in order to convince you I decided to share the crème-de-la-crème of the toners I have tried over the past few months.

A Few Steps to Clear(er) Skin

I know I've been overloading you guys with posts regarding how I've been trying to clear up my skin. Having received quite a few emails after my Current Skin Saviours post, I decided to make a short list of things you need to take into account when you're suffering from break outs, as only changing your skincare won't be enough. These guidelines vary from skincare to eating habits. I've seen great results in the past 6 weeks in my skin when trying to 'follow' these guidelines accompanied with new skincare. Of course it doesn't mean your skin will become immaculate immediately, but a healthier lifestyle is always a plus and like the old saying goes: you are what you eat. Oh, just read on.

November 4, 2013

Current Skin Saviours

When my skin basically got completely bonkers, I had to go back to basics with my skincare routine. Meaning: only natural products, no added night treatments and it had to be something French. Why? Because when I was living in Paris, only natural and French pharmacy products touched my face and that was when my skin looked it best. So after almost emptying my entire bank balance, I'm finally on the good track to clear(er) skin.

November 3, 2013

Obsessed With... Rebecca Minkoff Bags

I've always been a big bag lover (i.e. Bag Lady) and ever since I introduced myself to Rebecca Minkoff's brilliant bag collection a few years ago (mini M.A.C. in Aqua Teal in case you're wondering), I've been obsessed. Being effortlessly chic, practical and sophisticated, there's a bag for every girls' needs. With the recent launches of some great dreamy additions to their already stunning range, I couldn't help myself to put together a list that I've been scribbling down in my 'Things To Buy When I've Got My First Pay check' notepad. I mean... that's something to look forward to, n'est-ce pas?

November 1, 2013

Bathing in Coca Cola

While some kids wondered how to master an airplane, I was one of those kids who wondered how it would feel if you had to shower in Coca Cola. Hypothetically, of course. Sadly, I never got the chance to test it out (my mum is kind of a neat freak) and had to grow up with a big question mark through life. Okay, maybe a tad exaggerated, but I'm sure everyone did wonder how it would be like to shower yourself in a fuzzy drink. And I think I found my answer after 20 freakin' years. Thank goodness Anatomicals know their stuff by adding the best from both worlds: slapping on Cola without the stickiness. I promise you're gonna like this one.

Just In: Oh-Lief

(End) of October is the transition month for me, to go from summer to autumn. I go through my stash and switch out quite a few products to provide the extra moisture my body longs for. Oh-Lief is actually a brand that I just came across recently. A South-African brand that has a range of all natural, organic body and lip products? Yep, just right up my alley.

October 28, 2013

What I've Been Loving (October 2013)

With falling leaves, rainy days and lots of wind Autumn is in full bloom here. Skin wise, the condition of my skin has improved compared to how it was when I wrote my post. However, I'm not even close to how my skin looked before. To get me through the month, I've been using great products for those 'transition months' meaning: more coverage, more moisture and heavier scents.

October 26, 2013

Isabel Marant pour H&M

I'm sure you guys are sick of reading and seeing posts about the latest designer collaboration for H&M, which is the ever so parisian-chic brand Isabel Marant. I've been loving her pieces and following the brand for 3 years now and love it to pieces. She's been an amazing innovator in the industry making the sneaker wedge and oversized sweaters chic and cool. You've got to understand my enthusiasm when word got out Isabel Marant would be the next H&M capsule collection designer. Though there have been mixed words about the collection that will hit the stores and online on 14 November, I've got no bad things to say. I mean... have you seen that jacket, that wooly cardigan and the tailored coat? Yep, definite must-haves for this season in my books. Fingers crossed that H&M won't have a service failure again.

Throwing Up Berries

When the weather starts to become very gloomy and cold, I always pull out my boldest plum colours to perk me up. As it's my senior year, I spend quite a few days testing my lipsticks working from home. Most of the time I just walk around the house, barefaced, with a bold lip. Once my dearest Mum, who's more a red-lipstick person, chuckled when I wore a vampy-berry lip and said that I looked like I threw up berries. And well… that's how came up with this post: a selection of my favourite lip products that make it look like you 'threw up berries'. In a sophisticated way of course...

October 18, 2013

Pure Heaven In a Tube

We all know how highly I think of REN products and when a little birdie told me that they rebranded their Normal skin line, I had to try something out myself. With my obsession with cleansing balms and rose-scented products, Rosa Centifolia No. 1 Purity Cleansing Balm was an obvious choice. Note to self: think of ways to shorten long product names.

October 16, 2013

Just In: French Pharmacy

While I was planning a last-minute trip with my mum and sister to Paris during my autumn break (which is now), I was noting down the bits wanted to stock up on in the pharmacies. Sadly for me, we didn't get to book tickets as the majority was sold out and the ones that were left were ridiculously priced - I refuse to pay €300 for a one-way ticket... each. So to cheer myself (and my skin) up, I decided to look for alternative ways so I could treat myself to some French skincare, which is how I got all this heavenly goodness.

October 14, 2013

The Post-Hair Removal Gem

Body hair removal must be one of the most unglamorous beauty topics to talk about, right below pimple popping, yet very necessary to do. I know people say you shouldn't touch a blemish, I just can't help it if a whitehead keeps staring at me… Anyhoo, coming back to hair removal: it's a pain, both literally and figuratively spoken. Shaving for me is a waste of time, hence Epilator became a good pal of mine over the years. Post-epilating situation mostly is: red, itchy and irritated skin. Oh and don't forget the ingrown hairs. Sound familiar? Well, I think I've found a cure for that. Sort of…

October 13, 2013

BECCA Foundations

Bases have always been seen as the most important asset in my stash and I doubt that ever will change. Be it sheer, light, medium or full coverage - I have it all and gotta catch 'em all. So when I heard through the grapevine that BECCA had some rather interesting bases, I had to try check them out. So far, Radiant Skin Satin Finish and Matte Skin Shine Proof Foundation have knocked my socks off. And they really should start make shorter product names... *phew*

October 11, 2013

HealGel Intensive

Flawless skin. Don't we all long for that? It's rather impossible to have spotless skin, no discolouration, hyper-pigmentation or scars, so any help a skincare product could give is rather tempting. I've been testing out a few things lately and the only one that rolled out as something that I'm rather loving is HealGel Intensive. Formulated by a team of the worlds finest plastic and cosmetic surgeons, combining liposomes with powerful peptides and biodynes to soothe the skin and boost the collagen process - it just baffled me and won me over with the fancy words, so I caved.

October 9, 2013

Just In: Pixi

If it's one thing that can make my day, it's new beauty things. And the best ones are those that you expect the least. Having heard many things regarding Pixi, I was rather curious how well their make up range would do, which is why I selected a few make up staples from their main range to see how they'd do against my personal favourites.

Now Is Not The Time

ph.  by Giampiero Maietti

It's been a long time since I wrote an update post, so I thought why not today. Completely off topic: the picture above was taken when I was at Uni by my very talented photographer friend, Giampiero. That's me with a messy bun on top of my head (rather literally) and a comfy jumper during a group meeting. Do check out my 'About Me' and 'Contact' page for more pictures by Giampiero. They're awesome. What I wanted to say with this post is: sorry. I'm very sorry for the lack of posts the fast few days. It's just that I'm a bit of a mess physically and mentally. Don't worry, I'm not crazy (or well... not yet).

October 2, 2013

Just In: Mario Badescu

My first experience with Mario Badescu products has been a great one, hence I felt the need to continue purchasing products from them when I became a bit spotty. Maybe I was a bit on the greedy front, but that's the after-math of online shopping. When this many goodies are just a few clicks away, it's hard to resist...

What I've Been Loving (September 2013)

September has been a very hectic month for me. Uni commenced, resulting in busy days, added stress and lots of books to read. Also, the formula to sleep longer and prep myself for Uni is in the works - everything for a few minutes longer under the sheets.

National Glamour Day

Today is National Glamour Day (for those located in the Netherlands and Belgium). It's kinda been a tradition for me and one of my best mates, one we have created ever since we knew each other, which is 5 years already! Basically we head off to Amsterdam and it's a day full of shopping, fun, food, gossiping catching up and indulging ourselves in the new autumn/winter collections. During NGD you receive 20% discount on all non-discounted pieces from at least 4500 stores, the only condition is that you need to bring the magazine Glamour with you (issue pictured above). After a full day of shopping, I thought I'd be nice to share some moments with you.

Starry Nights -
Super Gorgeous September #26

It might be an understatement when I say I have a nail fetish. My babe of a sister reminded me on the weekends what a ridiculous amount of polishes I have by auditing the entire stash. Results show how much of a hoarder I am and the money I've 'invested' in this collection is mind blowing. You've got to decide for yourself if that's a good or a bad thing. Anyhoo, while scrummaging through all the bottles, I bumped into some long-hidden colours that I'd completely forgotten. Thanks, sis.

September 25, 2013

Just In: Roger & Gallet Fleur de Figuier

If you've been following my blog for a while or follow me on either twitter or Instagram, you know I love figs. Especially entering autumn, it's one of my favourite fruits to eat and scents to wear. As my beloved Diptyque Figuier candle burned out, I was already sobbing and dreading the days I had to go fig-free. With luck on my side, I received a little parcel yesterday evening with two goodies in from Roger & Gallet.

My Favourite Lipstick -
Super Gorgeous September #24

I have a huge lipstick collection and while my dearest sister was rummaging in my beauty stash last weekend and auditing every item in my stash, I came back in touch with an old flame. Dior Addict Extreme has been one of my favourite lipstick ranges, just because the texture is so creamy and has the greatest range of colours that are flattering for my skin tone. Though you can imagine it's insanely hard to pick one favourite in the bunch, I can say in a blink of an eye that, that is Chèrie Bow for me.
