Benjabelle Brush Tree

The lovely Ben and Jan were kindly enough to send me the Brush Tree*, which I've spotted on quite a few blogs. So you can imagine I was very excited to try this out and see what it all was about!

Surprisingly the Brush Tree is very light-weight yet sturdy and really easy to put together. Easy to store when you don't need to use it (basically it's just a few flat perspex pieces) and a pleasure to look at when it's in use. It is available in 3 different colors: white, black and pink. I chose the white one as I think it'd fit in my room and because I like the clean look of it. The Tree is really easy to use, you basically just put in the brushes you've cleansed in the holes and it will stay there. I'd recommend to put a towel, or tissue(s), below the Tree so you don't have to worry about the water that might drip down from the brushes on the table/place you've put your Tree.

Though you can use a towel to let your wet brushes dry on, having the Brush Tree just makes everything a bit easier and ensures that there won't be any water dripping down to the handle, which can ruin the brushes eventually. The rubber in the frame that holds the brushes makes it possible to hold any kind of brush, doesn't matter what brand or size. If you have smaller/thinner brushes, such as concealer or eyeshadow brushes, it'll be better if you group them together to ensure they won't fall out and to make most out of the space. You can get the Brush Tree for $34.95 online, excluding shipping cost.

Would you consider getting a Brush Tree?

Professional Beauty Haul

I told you in my previous post that I went to Professional Beauty and I had a blast. Unfortunately, my bank account disagrees on that matter. After looking back at the receipts I've collected that day, oh boy, I didn't dare to look at my bank balance. I've been spending way too much money on beauty products lately, keeping in mind I've been living here for only 3 weeks! Goodness.

However, I am really glad with my purchases and if you look at the total amount of money I spent, I got it for such a great deal :-). As a big Essie fan, I spend some time to go through the collection they had on the event from A to Z literally. After a good 10 minutes I caught myself stocking up on the pastel and nude-y colors and can you blame me? Most polishes I got are basically cult Essie colors and that I should've owned ages ago already. I find them all absolutely stunning and great for the coming seasons - spring and summer. I can totally see myself wearing these colors right now and when I start to get a bit more tan. Marvelous. The polishes I got are Fiji, Naked Truth, Topless & Barefoot, Marshmallow, Absolutely Shore and Mint Candy Apple. When I told my boss that I've never used a base coat in my life (I use my top coat for that purpose), she looked at me with horror and raved about the Essie Protein Base Coat. Sucker for good raves, I caved in and got that too. Polish wise I picked up Seche Vite (classic) and China Glaze Whirled Away, which is a confetti-ish topcoat.

After the nail polish haul I stopped by Clarins as they had great gift sets for sale for rather bargain prices. I picked up two giftsets, which are perfect little presents for birthdays or just... to treat one another. To treat myself (as if I don't do that enough already ;-) I picked up a lip set, which included 3 lip products in orangey hues: Instant Smooth Crystal Lipbalm 03, Gloss Appeal 10 and Color Quench Lip Balm 09. Haven't tried these out yet, but they look very promising!

Please excuse me from the bad quality images; c/o my iPhone ;-)

Have you tried any of these products before?

What I've Been Up To #2

While browsing though my blog feed I realized that my last "What I've Been Up To" post is almost a month ago - urgently time for a new one!

London is treating me really well, though there are many things I need to get used to. I'm enjoying my internship a lot and my colleagues are a joy to be around with. I get on well with my roomies too. We're not best buds, but have the daily small talk, which is good enough for now ;-). I'll try to make a room tour post asap for those that are interested.

Some exciting news? I've been to Professional Beauty today - it was a mad house! I absolutely loved it though and have stocked up on quite a few things. Absolutely horrible for my bank account, which you all can relate too I guess. Afterwards I popped into Selfridges to only visit their magazine section (which is brilliant I have to add!). Can you imagine how much willpower it took me to not stop by all the beauty counters? After a little while I was one yellow bag richer. More on that later, now I urgently need a foot massage and take a cup of camomile tea. I definitely deserved that ;-).

How have you guys been doing and have you visited Professional Beauty before?

Boots, House of Fraser, H&M Haul

I've been meaning to put this post up for so long, the only thing that has stopped me is the amount of stuff I keep buying. So I decided to split it just up in a few parts, as otherwise it could become a huge haul and I wouldn't want to bore you all ;-).

This is the stuff I got in the first week I was here, and mainly some boring things. I stopped at Boots first and picked up some X-Large Baby Cotton Pads for make up removal - they are amazing, way better than regular cotton pads. An item I've been lusting over is the Dr. Jart+ Waterfuse BB Cream. I don't say it very often, but this is totally worth the rave and hands down the best Korean BB cream I've tried so far and I have had my fair share of 'em. I picked it up when it was 1/3 off all Dr. Jart+ products, so it was a great deal (around £12). I even picked up one for my mum while the deal was on - she's gotten so curious after my ravings haha!

While I was still in Boots I swooshed by the make up section real quick and picked up 3 Barry M Nail Paints (they had a 3 for 2 deal) in Bright Red, Indigo and Red Black. I also got the Super Facialist by Una Brennan Purifying Clay Mask. I have tried it a couple of times, not sure what to think about it yet. I also caved in and got the First Aid Beauty Shaving Cream because it was 50% off. Really wanted to get the oatmeal mask but that one was sold out already.

In House of Fraser I just walked to the Laura Mercier counter and grabbed the Laura's Secrets Vol. 4 set. It was 50% off - it would've been a crime if I'd pass that one up. I can say that I've enjoyed this set so much ever since I got this, and have been using at least one product everyday. I also got a small silver bangle that looks like a belt from H&M, which was a big impulse buy actually.

The first Sunday I got here I went to a work related fashion event. My mission there was to spot new brands and products to feature on the agency's blog. My favorite of them all: Paperthinks, a company that sells stationary, bags, and cases of recycled leather. Great concept with great colors. I mean, it's just a joy to only look at them! I got a 12 Month Diary* in the medium size I guess, and I love it. It's just the perfect size, great quality and gorgeous vibrant blue. Am currently eyeing the iPad case and the travel wallet - swoon.

What have you been buying lately?

Korres Wild Rose Bodycare Set

Korres is a brand that is absolutely lovely, and I love their body products. The Korres Wild Rose Bodycare Set* is a total pleasure to add to my body regime - which I don't have. I'm one that is really lazy with applying body lotion and I get away with it. The set originally comes with a lipbalm too, but my lovely colleague had dibbs on that one already ;-). I'm not complaining, I adore what I've got. I've used the body butter a few times now, and it smells lovely. It's a thick-ish consistency, but very easy to blend into the skin and leaves the skin very supple and moisturized. The smell is very subtle, which I like. I do recall using a Body Shop fruit body lotion, which was so heavily fragranced that I couldn't sleep because of the smell and had to wash my arms in the middle of the night. Really, no kidding. I also love that it sinks in quickly into the skin - there is nothing worse than my PJ's sticking to my arms and legs, yikes!

I don't think the shower gel needs any explanation; it does what every shower gel does. It cleanses, makes you smell nice and well... it cleanses you. Paired together it makes the scent linger longer, still very subtle and people will only smell you when they are really up-close, and not a meter away (not calling names here). All in all, really enjoying the set and will definitely be trying out more of Korres's bath and body products! You can get this set (including the lipbalm) for €27/£20 from ASOS.

What is your experience with Korres bath/body products?

Models Own Ice Neon Collection

I'm a big fan of Models Own Neon polishes and when I saw these you can imagine that I was so excited. I mean... look at them! Utterly gorgeous. The Ice Neon collection promises to be neon a whole other level, it actually requires you to store them in the fridge in order to maintain their "brightness". The bottles are specially designed so they can withstand the cold. Storing the polishes in your fridge will actually maintain the pigments of the polish, which makes the color more vibrant, and the polish will be longer lasting.

Personally, I'm looking forward to test these out when they are in stores. It's a fun and inventive idea, the sun is kicking in so we need some color in our lives and they are not too expensive. I'm not really liking the idea of storing my polishes in the shared-fridge. Hmm... should I invest in a mini fridge for my room or would that go too far? ;-)

They will retail for £5 each. Worldwide launch exclusively at the Models Own Bottleshop on the 9th of March or pre-order online. Available in all Boots stores in the UK from 22nd of March.

What do you think about this collection, and which color would you get?

J.W. Anderson x Topshop II

A few days back the second J.W. Anderson x Topshop collaboration launched, and I have to say I love it more than the first one. The prints, black and white - I'm totally loving it. You can see a clear inspiration from Wednesday from the Adams Family. It's bolder, quirkier, and grungier than its previous collection. In my opinion also more wearable for most of us, as it is not as crazy with the prints and symbols. The collaboration contains everything from shoes to accessories to dresses to jumpers. It's a dream. The J.W. Anderson x Topshop collection is available online and in stores.

What are your favorite picks of the collection?

ZARA vs. Miu Miu?

Have purchased these a while ago; totally forgot to share the good news with y'all! I was eyeing these in my local ZARA ever since they hit the stores, but when I decided to get them they were sold out. Before I left for London, I went to The Hague (Den Haag) with my mum to do some shopping and of course popped into ZARA. They still had their sale going on and when browsing through the store I found these beauties! Couldn't believe my eyes, as I wasn't able to grab them even before the sales.

It has a velvet texture, with a golden baroque-ish print embroidered. I got them in black, but I believe they are available in red as well. There barely is a heel, which makes it a comfy everyday shoe. One way or another they remind me of the overly hyped-up Miu Miu loafers. Same kind of look. Velvet, embroidered. The Miu Miu's have a slightly different print, a larger heel (with some serious bling), and are obviously more expensive.

Can't stop glowing when I see these, as I really love them. I can see myself getting a lot of wear of them already. Comfy loafers, yet work appropriate. Priced originally at €59,95, got them in sale for €29,95. Told ya it was a bargain ;-).

What do you think of these loafers; do you like them?

Follow Me Around

I've been in London for a while now, and am starting to feel a bit more at home. Have met all my roommates, and colleagues at work - they are all lovely people to be around. Goodness, imagine if it wasn't the case. That would've been a bloody dreadful 5 months then. Anyhoo, as quite a few of you are interested in how I'm getting on in London, and my internship I thought I'd let you know how, and where you can follow me on my updates.

Instagram: Is there anyone that doesn't love this app? God bless the person who invented this, too bad it's been bought by Facebook recently, nonetheless I still keep using this app daily. If there is anything fun or interesting popping up during my day, I'm one to capture that moment. Pictures do make memories more vibrant, non? You can follow me here.

TwitTer: Sometimes I tweet a lot, and sometimes I don't. It just depends on my mood, and what I have to share. I use twitter to put my thoughts and rambles for you to read basically. Definitely a tool I use to keep everyone in the loop on my adventures here in London (and just life in general). Spot me tweeting at @wy_hu!

PINTEREST: Oh who doesn't love this online pinboard? I can tell you I do. Though I love creating physical moodboards, Pinterest is just the future as it's so convenient, and you have access to a gazillion pins of others! Haven't been pinning as much as I used to, but that's going to change soon. Dare you to say that you haven't gone through tons and tons of pinboards yourself? ;-) Follow me for the odd pin, be it food, fashion, beauty or tech. Gotta catch 'em all!

VINE: The newest of the newest in the social media world, Vine. I have to be honest, I haven't posted anything on Vine myself, but I have some good plans for this tool. Too camera shy for Youtube, which is where Vine steps in for the short clips (15 seconds that is!). In my planning? Room tour, dressing table, make up stash, mini hauls... oh you name it! Watch this space... If you follow me on twitter, you'll be able to follow me. Gotta love those nifty tool integrations.

BLOG: Duh, very obvious. I'll try to do a weekly or bi-weekly post (depending on what I have to say, and what I did) about well... my week. Might be very interesting or very boring, that is for you to decide ;-). You can follow my blog through GFC and Bloglovin.

Leave me your social links; I'll definitely check them out!

Book & Stationary Haul

Just right before I left for London, I popped by my favorite local bookstore to check out some new stationary (I love stationary!). At the same time they were having promotions, and extra discounts on their already discounted on products. You can imagine that I had to come back with something right? ;-). Obviously I didn't bring all of them with me to London, just two of the small notebooks, which I still have to find a purpose for.

Am really happy with all my finds, and feels quite refreshing to say that I bought something else than clothing or beauty products. I do have a smart side too ya know ;-). So I got Lonely Planet Travel Guide for Hong Kong & Macau, though I've been to both places before, having a guide is so much better, and works quite refreshing too. Definitely going to bring this with me this summer when I'm going back there! That huge pink box is actually to organize address cards, but I'm sure I'll find a good use for it, probably something beauty related ;-). The few books I got Klunen (Dutch writer), Grotesk, and 3 chick-lit/romans were a bargain. I also got a huge photo album with travel related illustrations on, a perfect place to store all my Parisian adventures in I thought so myself. The items that look cutesy in the corner are from flow. It's a Dutch brand, and I got their pocket notebooks, and some colored pencils in a cute case.

When was the last time you stopped by a bookstore?

Phyto Detox Shampoo

I got this when I still was in Paris, in my first haul I believe. I was hoping that this was my dream shampoo, a shampoo that would literally change my world. I know, impossible. But reviews on the net were positive, and the product description too. I know this doesn't mean that it's the golden ticket to my hair problems, but still I kept my hopes up.

After trying this for a while, I really can't say much positive things about it. I really wanted it to work, but unfortunately it didn't. It has a minty/eucalyptus scent, which is great. It lathers up great, and my hair feels great afterwards. It's softer, and it feels like my hair is seriously detoxed. However, at the end of the day, my hair starts feeling a bit greasy. And by the time it's the next day, my hair is a total greasy mess. Not a nice look. Still I think shampoos are just like skincare, a personal thing, something you should try yourself first to be able to say anything about it.

Have you ever tried Phytho Detoxifying Shampoo, how'd you like it?

EmerginC Multi-Fruit Cleanser

Long time no see! Apologies I haven't been able to upload any posts recently. As you all might know I've been moving house to London! Very exciting, I know. Won't blabber around this here, will do a more detailed update post soon. Howdy to my first post in London (I know howdy isn't British ;-).
EmerginC is probably a brand you might not be very familiar with, not to confuse with emergenC - a powder form of vitamin C. It's a brand that uses fruit acids in their products, it's paraben-free, as well as from artificial colors. I've tried this make up remover since I used up the Bioderma Créaline H2O, which is about 2-3 weeks, as I didn't want to bring half-used bottles to London.

I'm not really sure if I like this… or not. It comes with a pump, and need to I use a rather large amount to take off my make up, and "feel cleansed".  I remove the make up on my skin twice with the EmergenC Multi-Fruit Remover, and then I use the Gamila Secret Cleansing Bar to cleanse my skin. The product has a strange yellow-ish color, which doesn't look, nor smell luxurious at all. Actually loathe the smell actually. It cleanses face make up fine, but it doesn't remove eye make up at all. I can't speak about eyeshadow, as I rarely use that, but mascara: it's a pain in the eye, even when it's not waterproof! I always use a separate eye make up remover, but still it's nice to not look like a panda after washing my face, and mascara in the eye stings like crazy.

To wrap it up nicely: it didn't break me out, nor did it create any skin irritations. It is rather moisturizing (a tad too moisturizing for my skin), which means it doesn't rip off your skin's natural oils. I let my mom try it, and she didn't have any skin reactions either (she has very sensitive skin).

Have you ever tried EmergenC Multi-Fruit Cleanser?

I forgot to take a picture of the actual product, and didn't bring it with me to London

Oh Em Gee; London Here I Come

Today is the day I've been prepping for, for almost a month - since I came back from Paris. Gosh I'm so excited, stoked, sad, and anxious all at the same time. You'd say I'm crazy, but I'm not. Okay, maybe a little. But there are so many emotions floating around at the moment that I'm not really in my right mind. As I'm typing this, I'm on my way to the train station (Rotterdam), which will bring me to Brussels, and from there on I'll be going to London St. Pancras. All in all I think it'll take around 5 hours. That's a heck lot more than Paris, thank goodness I'll have company!

I don't know why, but I've been carrying a feeling that I've forgot to pack something for the past 3 days - it's insane! I guess the only way to see whether I'm just imagining it or whether I really forgot something, is when I finish unpacking. Believe me, that's gonna take a while. ;-) My friend Dascha will be helping me move, and help me a bit with the luggage. I'll be bringing two huge suitcases, and will be lugging around a bright red rucksack - not really looking my fanciest. Wouldn't be able to bring this all by myself, so was really stoked that my she was willing to come with :-).

I'll try to keep posting this week, but I can't promise it'll be as often as usual. Will do some speedy sightseeing (e.g. the area where I'll be staying, Oxford Street, Regent Street, Big Ben, London Eye... yeah that's all), will do some unpacking, and then I'll start with my internship on Thursday already. Gosh, so excited! Will keep you guys posted!

So, where will your next destination be?
