Things I've Been Loving (May 2013)

May has been a though month for me. Physically as I've been gaining weight ever since I moved to London, mentally as workload has been growing and growing (which is a good thing, but exhausting) and also skin-wise as I've been breaking out like nobody's business. Simply said, I haven't been on top of my game and these few bits have been keeping me together and made my days this month a bit more pleasant.

La Roche-Posay Anthélios AC SPF30

Even though the sun hasn't been shining much in London, it's still important to lather up on sunscreen, even if you're just taking a step out of the house. I'll confess, up to a year ago I could care less about SPF. Why? Being acne-prone and a combination/oily skin gal, finding the right SPF is a pain and tends to leave white marks and break me out. It just wasn't worth it. That is until I tried La Roche-Posay Anthélios AC Extreme Fluid SPF30.

Amie Skin Exfoliating Polish

With the weather in London being this depressing, anything that brightens up my day is welcome. Be it colorful nail polish or summer pop songs, the thing that triggers my holiday mood are scents. I'm very sensitive to scents and any kind of fruit/citrus-y fragrance will work uplifting on me, so did Amie Skin Exfoliating Polish*.

Today is RAVES 'nd RAMBLINGS' first anniversary. Honestly, time has flown by so quickly that I almost forgot. I still can't believe that I've gained the courage and started a blog to share my ramblings with the outer world. I'm so thankful to all of you who basically made the blog and motivated me to continue rambling writing about beauty - my true passion.

During this year I've learned so much, I've met the most amazing people who are also very beauty savvy, just like me. I've been able to develop myself as a better writer, I still am discovering who I am and what my 'voice' is like. It's been such a fun year, with obvious ups and downs, but I'm very happy that I decided to start this blog. Having RAVES 'nd RAMBLINGS as an outlet has been great for me during difficult times and I can't believe how supportive you all were.

I love you guys and hopefully you'll stick with me till the end, which will be very very far away. You're stuck with me for a while now, I'm telling you, ha. Now I'm off to my morning jog and after that I'll visit the Food Fair that's in South Bank this bank holiday weekend and eat lots of great foods, ha!

Thanks so much for following & reading my blog!

Drugstore Skincare Haul

With the sole intention of buying iron supplements, I walked out of Boots with a bag with everything except that. Truth to be told, I totally forgot about the supplements until the next morning... upps. I usually don't go for drugstore skincare products, as I just find they don't work for me compared to French pharmacy and high-end brands. While I was zoned-out and strolling around the isles, some bits caught my attention and made the cut into my basket.

balance Me. Cleanse and Smooth Face Balm

Balm cleansers have been going viral for the past months and the only reason why I haven't jumped ship yet is because they all come in a big tub. I just don't like scooping my product out as I find that very unhygienic and I don't want product to be stuck beneath my nails. This is where balance Me. Cleanse and Smooth Face Balm* comes in, which is packaged in a nifty tube with all the benefits of a balm cleanser... me likey.

Supersize Me

... the Kiehl's edition. I'm a big fan of Kiehl's products as they just work on my skin. Originally created by a pharmacist, which I think is the reason why their products work - they are based on proper research. All products are created by an unique blend of cosmetic, pharmaceutical, herbal and medicinal knowledge developed over generations. What I like the most about Kiehl's is that their philosophy is based on trying their products out, meaning they are very generous with samples. The reason behind that is because they believe in their products, and know they'll rock your socks off. Which they do... spot on.

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer

Hair has become my main concern lately - ask my friends and colleagues and they'll tell you I'm obsessed. I've never have suffered from dry or coarse hair, luckily, but I've been doomed with a very oily scalp that requires either a ton of dry shampoo or a daily wash. As I've been trying out many clarifying shampoos (which haven't really solved my problem in case you were wondering), my ends are starting to get drier. Not to the extent that they are breaking off, but dry enough to get me started on treating my ends as well. First pit-stop: Philip Kingsley Elasticizer.

Essie Bikini So Teeny

The weather in London changes as often as I change the color of my nails - very often and unpredictable. Having tons of colors to choose from, Essie's Bikini So Teeny is a color I often pick during spring and summer time. Part of their Summer Collection 2012, it is a gorgeous pastel blue with a slight shimmer in it, which is not noticeable at first glance. As the polish is very opaque, 1 to 2 coats will do, it applies like a dream and doesn't streak.

Percy & Reed Voluminising Shampoo & Conditioner

After my not so pleasant experience with Percy & Reed No Oil Oil, I was a bit hesitant to try out more of their products. Would they work on my hair and scalp? I've been struggling so much with hair products, I just feel like giving up. Percy & Reed were so kind to send me some samples of their Volumnising range. I received their Volumnising Shampoo* and Conditioner* and I have to say… I'm quite impressed.

How Much Is Your Make Up Bag Worth?

We all know the infamous "how much is your face worth" tag and when I spotted this version at Stylist, I knew I had to empty mine and face reality. I'm one that always lugs a lot with me, just in case I or someone else, is in need of something. Lately I've been editing my make up bag down, as I noticed that that was the heaviest in my bag. That and my overly-filled coin purse.

Hello Brighton!

Last week was my Bank Holiday weekend and with the weather this bloomin' beautiful it would've been a crime to not head towards the coast. Not having the finances to fly away to the beautiful Riviera in Southern France, I found my British equivalent... well sort of. Brighton is know for its beach (which has won an award apparently) and with many people telling me how marvellous the city is I had to see it for myself.

The weather was amazing and I had such a lovely time at the coast. Brighton is an amazing city and so cheap, compared to London that is. It reminded me of a small beach-town back in the Netherlands where I grew up - childhood memories are the best. How the beach was you ask? Horrible. Little did I know that it was a beach full of rocks, the size even bigger than the 2 pound coin. Though it was good to leave the hectic city for a day and just relax a bit (though Brighton was packed that day), already planning on visiting another city next Bank Holiday - Cambridge or Bath perhaps? At the end of the day I know I'm a city girl and am very glad I live in London, even when it's dubbed as 'the city of fog'.

What have you been up to this Bank Holiday?

7 Things I've Been Loving (April 2013)

I know I say this every month, but April just passed in a blink of the eye. Secretly one of my favorite months of the year. Why? It's my birthday month (left my teens behind this year), I love spring and it's Queensday in the Netherlands - the best holiday ever. Sadly my attempt to celebrate Queensday in London failed like no other, as the only Dutch bar in the entire city was packed with Dutchies celebrating the last Queensday like no other. I ended the night with some lovely lads and birds, so it was fun nonetheless.

MUJI Essential Oils

The first thing I do when I enter the office is starting up my computer, make myself a cuppa tea, a glass of water and turn on the room diffuser. I add a few drops of MUJI Essential Oils in Lime, Bergamot and Ylang Ylang to create my own little concoction. You literally just need the tiniest amount, so a bottle will last you a lifetime. Okay, probably not a lifetime if you use it daily, but it will definitely last you a while.
