Bring On 2015

2014 was a year packed with great beauty launches and some products were so innovative, I can't even say how impressed I am. The beauty junkie that I am, I've gotten word of some cool new launches in the next year, which makes me even more excited. Bring on, 2015. I'm ready for 'ya.

Rahua Volumninous Shampoo

It's taken me a long while to get my thoughts sorted on the Rahua Voluminous Shampoo. I'd be lying if I didn't say that there's been a love-hate relationship going on and after many months, I think I've finally settled my thoughts.

Hello, Bob

No, sadly, Bob is not the name of my latest flame  —meet my new hair. If you're an Instagram follower, you may have seen my (rather awkward) selfie of me donning a new 'do. This is by far the most 'exotic' I've gone with my hair and most probably the shortest I've ever had my hair since I was 4. I do love my long hair and a hairdresser once told me I've got a face for it (whatever that means), but it was starting to get really limp and flat —making me itch for something different.

Blurred Lines

Kiehls is by far one of my favourite skincare brands and when they launched the Micro-Blur Skin Perfector, I couldn't be more excited. A primer (or "skin smoother" like they call it) with skincare benefits to it? Yeah, I'm up for that.

The 5 Product Make Up Menu

I'm known to always over pack when travelling – be it a two day trip or a month-long holiday, it doesn't matter. For my trip back home I packed a surprisingly low amount of personal items (fyi: it was all packed with Christmas gifts) and the beauty products I brought with me can be counted on one hand. I'll be flying back to Leeds in a few weeks and I just didn't want to bring my army of beauty products and bring it all back [alongside new purchases, ha]. Call me smart or call me cheeky, but meet the essentials...

Winter Skincare Staples

We're well in winter now and I've realised a long way back that sticking with the same skincare products all year round is a big no-no for my skin. Whilst I do get the odd breakout, my combination skin is very dehydrated, which is even more accentuated through the winter cold and blasting radiators. Through the past few months I've managed to put together an array of products that are hydrating and balancing for my skin.

My Christmas Wish List

After all this Christmas gift guide making, it got me thinking of what I would want for Christmas. Weirdly enough, it actually took me quite a few hours to compile a list with things I actually needed wanted and not just random things thrown in the list. And as good as my taste is, the things aren't exactly cheap. What can I say? Good taste comes with a price.

The Palette We All Lust For

I'm sure that we can all agree that NARS palettes just manage to make us oh-ing and ah-ing, over and over again. I've always been eyeing them up but always took too long to decide whether to buy it or not and end up missing out on them, but not this year. Although I told my housemate the Virtual Domination palette would be a week's groceries, the next day I popped into Space NK and caved. (Never let me go into town by myself on a Sunday). Was it worth a week living on beans and sweet corn? Oh heck yeah.

Christmas Gift Guide - £40 and over

We all love a bit of a pamper and in the name of Christmas, I say: let's splurge. Whether it's something you've been eyeing to buy to treat yourself or want to gift it to someone else, I've tried to put together a small list with gifts that are great when your budget is a bit higher.

Christmas Gift Guide - Under £25

Buying Christmas gifts for others always makes my heart flutter. Maybe it's because I love good gift sets or maybe it's the fact that I just like spending money. All that aside, I've tried my best to source the best Christmas gifts ever, when on a budget. Ranging from skincare to books to miscellaneous bits that will suit anyone's cuppa.

Dry Hands, No More

I'm one of those unlucky people who are doomed with dry hands 365 days a year. No matter what season or how hot it is, you'll see me with chapped hands and dry cuticles, hence you'll always find a tube of hand cream (or two) lingering in my bag, desk or room. What can I say... I like to hoard and I like to be prepared for any situation. With the wind blasting close to zero degrees and the fact that I still haven't gotten around to buy myself a pair of gloves (I know), these two babies have saved my life.

Christmas Gift Guide - Stocking Fillers

Whenever it hits December, I justify spending heaps of money in the name of Christmas. Somehow shopping for others gives me even a bigger thrill than finding something I love. Stocking fillers is something we never really did back home, but that never stopped me from getting them for others. I've selected a few products that are just great when you want to add a little extra to your main gift, to keep for yourself or hang in your tree. Yay for stocking filler baubles!

The 1 Minute Facial

I've been swimming in work up to my eyeballs, resulting in long and exhausting days, where I just don't have the energy to do any pampering or care for my skin (I know, I've been a useless beauty blogger, sorry). Quite frankly, my skin's been on a rollercoaster ride of looking grim, fab and disastrous —now it's the latter sadly. With long days and late nights, I've been seeking comfort in a little miracle product launched not too long ago by REN.

Gettin' Thirsty

The problem of having a scalp that's prone to getting greasy very easily, it that my ends are in a rather shabby condition. Dry, brittle and well... neglected. Yes, PHYTO Phytokératine has helped it heaps and gotten it into a rather good place, but it still hadn't gotten my hair back into the condition it was in a few years ago: bouncy, glossy and voluminous locks. Over the past months I've tried the Bumble and Bumble Quenching Masque and it's fully embedded into my haircare routine.

Weakened Ends

Ever since I permed my ends last Summer, my ends have been ridiculously dry and brittle. All the oils, creams and serums I had tried were only short-term solutions and nothing really helped, until I discovered PHYTO Phytokératine.

A Pinch of Salt

Stress, check. Sleepless nights, check. A solution? Work in progress... I generally am not a person who takes baths (I love my showers), but Therapie Himalayan Detox Salts have kinda converted me. Claimed to be the "natural version of Valium", it's a great way to winddown from a long and stressful way and just breathe.

Peter Thomas Roth's Triple Threat

When I first featured this on my blog in my rather excessive Sephora haul, some of you were very excited about the Peter Thomas Roth Skinstant Mask Magic Set and were considering to purchase this set. I mean, why wouldn't you? A cult-status, brilliant claims and proper eye candy (it literally reminds me of jelly). And the good blogger that I am, I tried it as soon as possible. Being a lover of a good 3 step mask routine (exfoliating, purifying, hydrating), this set seemed like a godsend. Although, I'm not so sure my skin agrees with this... at all.

My 'Signature' Look

First things first: I'm the worst with tags (which is the direct reason why I rarely participate in these). Secondly, thanks so much Jade for tagging me. After reading her post, I just felt I had to participate. That, and Jade is just too lovely to say no to, ha. Anyways, as we're slowly entering autumn/winter (it's a bit grey here in Leeds - literally and figuratively speaking), I thought I'd just share my 'signature look'. A look that I slap onto my face every morning when going to uni/work or just when I hop into town to run some errands. Easy, peasy.

Forever Repurchased

As an everyday makeup wearer and being super acne-prone, I take my make up removal regime really seriously. Bioderma Sensibio H20 is still the one I reach for when I can't be bothered to wash my face (i.e. after a few too many cocktails), but on regular days cleansing oils are my go-to's. Having run out of my beloved DHC Cleansing Oil (more on that here), I've recently repurchased the Super Facialist by Una Brennan Skin Renew Cleansing Oil, which is a good 'ole fave.

What I've Been Loving
(October 2014)

Autumn is in full swing in England, and honestly, I love it. After Spring, Autumn is my favourite season —the crisp leaves, refreshing wind and countdown to Christmas (8 weekends left, peeps) - it just has something charming I suppose. I've been testing some new skincare products this month and keep your eyes peeled for some cool features. But for now, this month's faves...

I'm Still Alive, Promise

I'm sure you've all noticed my radio silence, and whilst I don't want to be the one to push the blame on something else besides my bad time management – I kinda do. Starting the postgrad life, moving house – without WiFi (I know!) – was awfully hectic and stressful. The fact that I've survived on my wobbly hotspot connection for nearly a month is just shocking, but I'm back now with a steady Internet connection and I'll hopefully get back to my regular posting routine soon.

New Found Love

I always have one compact powder foundation on me when I'm out and about —just in case my foundation disappears throughout the day or for an unplanned drink meal at the pub straight after Uni. I mean... you never know (and I've got classes from 9-5, I deserve a break). MAC Studio Fix Powder has been my trusty ol' pal for many years, but recently it's been tossed in a corner and made place for NARS All Day Luminous Powder Foundation.

Sample Lovin'

Before there were beauty blogs or even before Makeupalley, the way to decide whether a you'd splurge on a product or not would be through sampling products. Even now, I tend to ask for a sample of a product or buy a travel size first, to see whether it suits my skin or if it actually does something. And out of the bunch I've been trying in the recent weeks, these were the ones that have climbed onto my "Must Buy ASAP" list a.k.a.) someone hide my credit card, pronto.

#Miracle?

Ask around, and you'll probably hear I'm an optimist. I like to see the best in people, things and situations for as long as I can put up with it. That being said, I'm very cynical towards the so-called 'miracle' products. I simply don't believe miracles exist, nor do miracle products perform miraculously. When Garnier had an offer on their Miracle Skin Cream, I just had to try the product and see what all the buzz was about.

Falling In Love With ILIA

When people say organic lipsticks, the first brand that pops up in my mind is ILIA. Raved and adored by green beauty bloggers, as a lipstick junkie myself, I had to try these. I've been hooked ever since and I think this is a start of a very dangerous obsession. And if the researches are right, and we do eat 7 pounds of lipstick in a lifetime, I might as well treat myself to something healthy, ha!

Over the past few weeks I've been pretty frugal (for my standard) as I knew I'd be moving house, had to live as a poor student again and I knew I'd be going all in when I touched down in England. Which I did. Not even sure if I could say it was per accident.

What I've Been Loving
(September 2014)

Having been in England for about 2 weeks now, I can say that Autumn has officially arrived. Up north, the weather has been crazy with humidity-meets-rain-meets-wind-meets-chill. I'm so not used to this, neither is my skin. During the month I've noticed my skin transforming in a dehydrated, lack-lustre and chapped mess. I've had to change quite a bit in my skincare routine and these were the bits that have dragged me through this month.

Going SLS Free

Every know and again the beauty community discovers ingredients that are supposedly skin harming, resulting in skincare brands to change their game plan and consumers being mortified. Okay, that's a bit of a stretch, but you get the idea. Think parabens, mineral oil, silicones, alcohol... Another term we've seen a gazillion times is SLES or SLS, also known as the foaming agent in our skin-, body- and hair care products. At first I couldn't really be bothered with switching all my products to anything labelled as "SLS free", but after nearly 2 years, I've gone SLS free with a few exceptions and most importantly: I've noticed a big difference.

What I've Been Reading Lately

I haven't touched a book since I arrived in Leeds (I know, shocker) but before I crossed the pond, I made sure to read as many books as I could. After all, I did spend a fortune on my last book haul. Waves In A Bottle

I've had super-straight-Asian hair all my life, except the time when I permed my ends two years ago (worst decision ever = damaged ends for life), so I'm always up to try a product that promises to add a bit of oomph to my 'do. Not being the greatest fan of salt sprays, I've really gotten to like them since I chopped off 12-15 cm of my hair before I left for Leeds. New town, new hair much?

This Happened (Again)

Whereas some people seek comfort in their family or beloved one, I venture into shopping. If I’m feeling sad, annoyed or just distressed — online shopping is my bestie, anywhere, anytime. Castor Oil: Miracle Cure or Overrated Crap?

There were three things that I immediately did when my brows nearly got tweezed in half: I tweeted my loss, when posting I came to realise how bad they actually look sand went into a major meltdown mode, and when I finally managed to calm down, first thing I did was Google-ing "How to grow your brows back". With quite some raves on Castor Oil, I decided to give it a go. So the morning after, when I got over my self-pity, I hopped on my bike – I mean, what better way to trial its hair growth abilities when nearly every hair's been plucked?

The SPF Edit

I'll be honest, I've never really been the type to apply SPF all day, err' day. You know me, I simply despise extra hassle in my daily routine. However, with more examples of post-sun damage popping up her and there (e.g., my 40 y/o neighbour who looks like she's well over 75 due to keeping up her excessive tan), I've been slapping on the sunscreen like nobody's business. Over the timespan of a year, I've tried and tested quite a few formulas, and only the best of the best made the cut (HA, I've always wanted to use that expression).

After lots of pushing and pulling from both my beauty-conscious friends and the Beauty Industry, I've discovered that body oils are the best thing ever. My skin usually isn't dry to begin with, but I've found a great selection of body oils that don't make you look (or feel) like a Sweaty Betty. When In Lisbon

Last week I went to Lisbon with my parents and sister to explore the beautiful city Lisbon in Portugal. I had such a great time and it's such a gorgeous and romantic city. Now I ain't a touring expert, but I did take us to some really cool places —even if I say so myself— and have of course taken pictures to share with you. For those who are thinking about going to visit Lisbon, I'd definitely recommend it. There are so many beautiful spots in the city with a lot of great food, especially a seafood-foodie's paradise. Fresh seafood, amazing weather and romantic views, what not to love?
