The Stocking Filler and
Budget Christmas Gift Guide

This post is for everyone who's still last-minute gift shopping or is looking for more things to add onto their wish list. I love me some TLC and there's nothing more satisfying than bargains. OK, so these aren't necessarily budget-buys, but they definitely won't break the bank and would be great stocking fillers. That is if you don't buy them all at once... PS. Yes, I know I may have overdone it on the snow front. Soz.

The Luxury Christmas Gift Guide

Christmas is easily my favourite holiday of the year —if you couldn't tell by the fake snow. The Christmas carols, fairy lights, family members getting together, mulled wine and of course... the gift exchange. It just makes me so excited and grateful. Yes, I realise this gift guide is a tad last-minute —a lot of exciting things have happened over the past few weeks (more on this in 2016!). But I had to share some great (luxury) products that would be great gifts to give and a bliss to receive.

My Super Cheeky Christmas Wish List

9 out of ten | Luxury Christmas Wish List

Now it's finally December, I feel it's appropriate to start thinking about Christmas and sat down to think what to put on my wish list this year. I'm very grateful for all the things I have and I know I should be content, but as I sat down and thought about the things I need/wanted... The list started growing —my bad.

A Luxury Beauty Haul

Net-a-Porter Luxury Beauty Haul

My goodness, yet another haul post. Yes, even I know that I'm hitting the edge of borderline-shopaholic. Whomever came up with online shopping, I love and hate you. Anyways, I felt like I deserved to treat myself as I finished my Masters dissertation and so I did.

Etude House Dear My Enamel Lips-Talk Review

Etude House Dear My Enamel Lips-Talk Review

I'm not the one to fall for cutesy packaging, because I went through the ‘princess phase’ a long time ago. Yes, the Dear My Enamel Lips-Talk may look excessively cute, but don't let its exterior fool you. These lipsticks pack a serious punch of colour and are oh-so comfortable to wear.

When you’ve got 3 bottles of the same stuff, it ought to be good

Weleda Aknedoron Purifying Lotion Review

When I moved back home, my skincare routine was all over the place. Whilst I had a mask collection enough to treat a small village, routinely products were running out or simply not working. During a spontaneous trip to H&B, my Mum dragged me to the Weleda shelves to introduce her to the range and as I was busy going through each range one by one, my eye fell on their Dermalotion. Whilst it looked very similar to the Aknedoron Purifying Lotion –yes the one everyone keeps raving about– I wasn't sure. Actually, I'm still not sure whether it is the same, but I do know that this stuff has saved my skin for the better.

My Long-Overdue London Haul

OK, I do realise that it's taken ages for me to share my London haul. In the mean time, I've already been to London and been back for a few weeks now. Sorry, somehow writing just didn't happen and I couldn't find the inspiration and motivation. But I think I'm back on track now! Some may think I went a bit overboard with my haul (maybe I did), but you've got to understand that most of these brands/products aren't carried in the Netherlands. Also: I'm a sucker for duty-free.

Und Gretel —Natural Makeup Done Well

Natural makeup brands are really starting to take off, mainly because of the very influential green beauty blogging community. Whereas I'm quite comfortable in the green beauty skincare segment, I've not yet found a brand that ticks all the boxes. Foundations are my main struggle and during a random Google search, I stumbled upon Und Gretel —a natural and organic German makeup brand created by MUA Christina Rothand and marketer Stephanie Dettmann. It was born based on the idea to provide great textures, formulations and bold/modern colours without using preservatives and toxins, creating a pure makeup brand without compromises.

#IWOKEUPLIKEDIS

I know overnight masks are no new thing and I'll be honest —I've tried my fair share over the years. However, as my skin is rather sensitive, and taking into account I'm very acne-prone, after a few mishaps I was avoiding these ‘overnight treatments’, like a goldfish avoids the toilet bowl. For the sake of the blog, you and mankind – OK and my own curiosity – I gave overnight treatments another go, just to see whether formulas have improved. After a few mehs, I found three keepers, which are now staples in my routine. As a skin disclaimer: I've got acne-prone, combination-oily skin with hyper pigmentation probz. #lifestruggles

What I've Been Loving (August & September 2015)

I realised a bit late that I forgot about my August faves, but because I was stuck inside the library all day 'err day, life wasn't too fruitful anyways. September on the other hand was very exciting and hectic. In a span of 4 weeks, I've handed in my dissertation, officially gone from student to unemployed, been frequenting the airport way too often and am so confused about my current status and near future. This all has been reflecting on my skin, which is confused, angry and just stressed to the core. I've got highs and lows, but I noticed that keeping my skincare to the bare minimum and supplementing it with soothing + hydrating treatments was the way to go. (I know it sounds simple, yet it took me many years to get to this solution).

H&M are Stepping Up Their Beauty Game —
H&M Beauty Launch 2015

When I think H&M, the last thing I think of would be beauty. Their previous attempts to enter the beauty lovers’ heart was lousy, where it mainly contained low-quality products that weren't really worthy of investing in. Maybe it was the success of their sister brand & Other Stories beauty range, or the fact that beauty lovers are ruling the world (not really, but kinda): H&M have finally stepped up their beauty game with an amazing range of hair, makeup and body care.

The Empties Edit #6

And we're back. As you know, I've been ridiculously busy the past month. Having migrated from the Uni library to my parental nest, I'm currently in the midst of the postgrad madness, not knowing where to go or what to do. As if life wasn't hectic and stressful enough. Sigh. I didn't see the point of packing products that were nearly empty, so I put in some extra effort to finish a load before the big move. And you know what? It was surprisingly easy, as I genuinely enjoyed every one of 'em.

Live Life the Colourful Way

... is something I don't say or do. My wardrobe is very monochrome and minimalistic, with a few rare pops of colour. And whilst I do love a good bold lip, I don't experiment with makeup ever. (OK, I had my phase when I was 12/13 and wore different coloured eye kohl every day, but let's not talk about that moment right now). However, with my first – rather positive – encounter with Etude House's PLAY 101 pencils, I decided it was time to gain some courage and start exploring. And you know what? Whilst you definitely won't see me with rainbow coloured lids any time soon, I'm kinda loving electric blue on me...

What I'm Packing For My 4-Day Trip To London

The answer: a lot. As you're reading this, I'm currently either 1) on my way to the airport, 2) arrived, passed security and ordering a double-shot black Americano to wake me up or 3) been trekking around duty free to find MAC's Waterweight Foundation (impossible to get hands on in NL). Before you start oh-ing and ah-ing, this trip is not all going to be pleasure. I'm here for Social Media Week, a 4 day conference about social media for social media specialists. That being said, I've left Friday empty, so I'll have time to venture into the shops. Hence, I tried packing with the mindset of bringing more back with me, as I'm not quite sure when I'll be back in London again. I've tried my best putting together a mini emergency skincare kit, as it's going to be a hectic few days, and some makeup essentials that should stay on my face for at least 10 hours. May the force be with me...

Amsterdam Is Always A Good Idea

Sometimes you just need to relax, take 5 (days?) and be happy. Whilst money can't bring happiness, it does allow me to buy goods that bring me that much closer to being happy. I know I've been pulling the post-dissertation card rather often, but when I was offered to preview H&M's Studio A/W 2015 collection and buy it before the masses, I grasped that opportunity. And hey, any reason to visit Amsterdam is a good reason in my books.

A Collagen-Boosting Skincare Range

After Hyaluronic Acid, I think collagen is one of the most sought after skincare ingredient. I mean, who doesn't want plump and smooth skin? Well, I most certainly do. Whereas collagen is often found in skincare for mature skin, I'm a big advocate of the saying, ‘prevention is cure’. Balance Me's Collagen Boost range is great for all ages in my opinion —whether you're in your early twenties or early fifties. I mean... My Mum has basically been using it more often than I do, and she loves it. (And a second order has already been placed)...

Weekend Wish List #13

'Ya know, I haven't done one of these in a long time. Heck. I haven't been blogging for a long time. Apologies for being so M.I.A. in the past few months, but I come bearing good news: I finally finished my Masters degree! Wooohoo! After 5 years of University (a BA is 4 years in the Netherlands), I'm finally done with education —at least for another 3-5 years. Going back to why I'm writing this post is: I've never really stopped online shopping (don't judge) and reaching this 'milestone' has triggered a switch in my brain that keeps telling me I deserve a treat. So instead of going crazy and splurging on impulse treats buys, I'm being good by sticking with the online equivalent of window shopping —but not for long...

The ‘When I Was on Holiday’ Haul

This summer has been absolutely madness, and I can't believe it's almost coming to an end. Actually, this whole year has been crazy, and I just can't believe I'm 10 days away from sending off my dissertation to the printers and... graduate. Amidst the dissertation madness, I flew back home for a week and managed to have a short trip to Ghent, Bruges and Lille and I thought it was about time what I brought back. OK, OK. The lot of cheese, vin rouge and crates of Belgian (dark!) beer went back with us as well. The advantages of driving there, eh?

Where to Buy Korean Beauty Products?

I've always been a lover of Korean cosmetics and with it finally being ‘acknowledged’ by the masses, it makes it so much easier to get a hold of cult and must-try products. It's still hit and miss sometimes, though over the years, I think I've found a great selection of retailers that I trust. Yes, eBay does sort you out most of the time, but I'm always a bit weary of fake products and scam-artists... So, I've accumulated a list of shops and sellers that I've used, and whom I know sell authentic products.

What I've Been Loving (July 2015)

I'm a bit late with last month's favourites, but August is finally(?!) here and the countdown to freedom/hell/stress/my dissertation deadline has officially started. To everyone who's been or is going on a trip: I hate/envy you. To everyone who's on the same boat: we can do this and we'll bloody ace it. Stress is slowly starting to kick in  —I mean, how can it not with less than 4 weeks left! It's definitely taking a toll on my skin: hormonal stress + bad diet + late nights = blemishes, dull and uneven skin. Yikes. However, with my recent trip to Boots – and some other products in my stash – I managed to mix some bits and bobs that made it possible to pull myself together and make me look presentable.

In Boots We Trust

In the past year I've walked out of Boots with a white carrier bag, way, way, way too often. For reference, my friends and housemates would just snort when they'd spot me smuggling my Boots bag past them, yet again. So after a careful look at the rather daunting amount of products I have in my stash and the fact that I need to fit all my luggage in just 2 suitcases, I decided it was time to call it quits and just take a break from Boots. After a good few weeks (or months?) of going cold turkey, I popped in last week. There were so many good deals, new launches and just things I had to try —for the blog of courszeee. The things I do for you guys...

Currently Reading

Due to my assignments I haven't been reading as much as I'd like to, though somehow that didn't stop me from purchasing more books on Amazon. I love my Kindle, but I'm a sucker for good covers, so I just had to get them in paperback. As I officially had my last lecture (ever?), handed in my assignments and will be writing my dissertation over the past two months, I've given myself more time to read to take a break from academic journals. I try to read as much as I can, wherever I am, e.g., while I'm waiting, during my commute and pre-bed time. And aside from having covers that make me smile, they're such well written books that'll definitely make your Summer reading list.

What I've Been Loving (June 2015)

June was a bit of a weird month for me. My classes officially ended and whereas I don't know if I can say these will be the last lectures I'll attend in life (I'll report back in a year of... five?), I'm definitely done for now. My focus has been on my dissertation and blog at the moment. Not having to go to Uni every day makes it really easy for me to plan my day and write blog posts when I'm tired of reading academic journals all day. So far I'm doing great on both ends and by the time this post goes live, I'll be busy packing as I'm moving house tomorrow. Nothing too exciting, as it'll be much smaller than I'm living right now, but I'll survive. ;-)

A big perk is being introduced to some of their most popular and best-selling items. I'm pretty sure I've already voiced my interest and bias regarding Korean beauty products and Etude makes it so much easier to fall in love with their products. Just as we thought the Koreans couldn't get any more gimmicky with beauty product inventions, they shut us up by shoving an army of cushiony products right in our face. I'll be honest, I'm very a tad biased when it comes to anything Korean, as I'm just obsessed with their culture and country in general. Beauty-wise, they're just on top of their game. A lil’ fact you may or may not know about me: each time I step out of the door, I spend money. Be it a lot or a little, it happens. It probably doesn't help that I'm up north, but there are plans in the works to move back to London after graduation, which is soon! Anyways, going back to topic: I think summer's finally come! When I think summer; I think beach, tan and shades. As there's zero chance of me visiting a beach this summer (damn you, dissertation!), a slightly higher chance of me developing a natural tan, I've just put all my focus on finding the perfect pair of new shades. I'm not too picky, yet it is so difficult to find a pair that suits my face and doesn't look ridiculous on. Though I think Oliver Peoples may have hit the mark about just right this time.

What I've Been Loving (April 2015)

The past month has been crazy. I feel like I always say that, but April made me realise how fast time has past. I've been in Leeds for 8 months now, I'm 22 and 9outoften is officially 3 this month! The good about blogging is that I give myself a reason to splurge on items, all in the name of research for (better) content – at least that's what I keep telling myself. This month I've re-discovered an old fave I've kinda forgotten about and discovered tons of new products that I wish I'd tried earlier.

I'm sure they're just jealous. HA! (Please don't tell my friends I said this). Aside from me becoming one year older, May marks the birthday of 9outoften as well! I can't believe my little corner on the Internet is 3 this year! Crazy, I'm telling you. I never thought people would actually enjoy reading what I've got to say, and have to say that through blogging and meeting you lot, I've grown as a person and met the greatest and loveliest bunch. Yes, I'm talking about YOU. Honestly, I didn't think anyone would like to listen to what I had to say. And to see how my journey's been, I'm grateful for every single reader and follower. Over the years I've had to fly quite a few times, either because of a trip or special occasions that required me to fly back home, as I lived in Paris, London and now Leeds. Aside from having built quite an OK miles balance, I've created a tradition of buying (at least) one lipstick in duty free. Strangely they all tend to be CHANEL purchases, but what can I say... Me and CHANEL, we're just going to be best buds for life. Although their bags and shoes would be my first pick if I had the money, what better way to commemorate an occasion through a lipstick that I can wear whenever I am. (And that won't leave me bankrupt and in debt after one purchase).

You wouldn't guess from the fact I write a beauty blog and am a self proclaimed beauty junkie, but I can be quite low maintenance in terms of beauty. I've flown back home during spring break, simply to play the substitute Mum, as she's in China for 2 weeks, travelling and living life. As I nearly ran out of my skincare products, I decided it'd be good to not bring any skincare and go for the bare minimum in terms of make up, so I could give my products at home some love as well. Luckily for me, I was greeted by my good 'ol stash at Mum and Dad's, which - for the record - was much bigger than I thought it was. And way too big for a person with just one face to slap it on...
