What I've Been Loving (February & March 2015)

Oh February, I've got mixed feelings about you. It being the shortest month of the year means that we're closer to spring, but also closer to me having to write my dissertation and graduate, again. The month passed by so quickly it's the end of March already and for the first time in my life I honestly do not know what to do next. Thank goodness beauty products give me the stability I need in life, ha!

You may or may not know, but I love a big bold lip during the evenings (red, please), but when I'm at Uni, I try to keep it low key and more natural. ILIA's Lip Conditioner in Nobody's Baby and By Terry Baume De Rose Nutri-Couleur in Toffee Cream have been my go-to lip products. Not only is it very nourishing without being greasy or heavy on the lips, it's just the perfect shade of nude. Not too pinky and not too brown, just that perfect my lips-but-better shade.

Foundation wise, I've been using NARS All Day Luminous Foundation in Fiji nearly on a daily basis throughout the month. It's a new release and I'll do a full, more detailed, review soon. But as a little teaser, I think it'd be best described as a light, but medium to full coverage foundation that stays on all day. Perhaps even a Sheer Glow meets Luminous Silk meets Maestro hybrid?

The All Day Luminous Foundation contains SPF25, but with me using brightening products and the sun making a rather frequent appearance, I've been using EVE LOM's Daily Protection + SPF50 for some extra protection. As a gal who's never been over the moon about an SPF, this one comes pretty close. Unlike most sunscreens, this doesn't feel heavy on the skin. It's fragrance free, it doesn't leave a white wash on the skin and most importantly: it doesn't break me out. Another EVE LOM addition I've been loving is their Powder Brush. It's a flat top kabuki brush with the softest bristles ever. It's amazing to blend in powders, but I use it to buff in liquid and cream products as well. Because it's got such dense bristles, it's very easy to buff in the product to get that flawless (or almost flawless in my case) look.

Being a massive fan of RMS Beauty's "Un" Cover-Up, I felt that it was about time I'd tap into its other products and try some of their best-sellers. RMS Beauty's Lip2Cheek in Modest has been my choice of cheek colour for the majority of the month. It is a very subtle peachy-rose, which leaves my cheeks slightly flushed, for that 'Oops I Did It Again' look. Knowing their products pack a good punch of pigment, I was rather surprised by how little you need of the balm and its staying power is amazing. Stays on all day on the cheeks and hours on my lips. I just dab clean fingers in the tub and dot it on the area where I'd usually apply blush. Then I use my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to buff it in. Easy peasy.

Something that doesn't come as 1,2,3 to me are brows. I've had my fair share of disasters and each time when I think I'm on a good track, someone manages to rain on my parade. That being said, I've truly enjoyed using Eye of Horus Brow Define in Nile and Dynasty, which have been the only product on my brows all month —aside from a coat of Anastasia Beverly Hills' Clear Brow Gel. The pencils are really similar to the Soap & Glory The Archery, but slightly more pigmented, longer-lasting and easier to use. The spoolie is much gentler and because the packaging is slightly thicker, it's easier to hold as well. Basically like holding a pen, and I assure you: even the biggest n00bs among us will manage to master this. Promise*.

* I mean... If I can do it, everyone can.

  1. I'm not sure how I feel about the S&G brow archery, I do like it but it's not a perfect match, Im planning to get the ABW in ebony, looks more like a closer match! The Eve Lom moisteriser sounds right up my street, I like a high SPF face cream.

  2. I get what you mean, they've only got two colours so definitely not ideal... If ABW doesn't work out, Eye of Horus has a wider shade range and I actually prefer it over S&G. The Eve Lom Daily Protection is actually a SPF, but I think if you've got really oily skin, you could use it as a moisturiser as well.

  3. I've never heard of EVE LOM! Sounds good though. And I'm dying to try the new NARS foundation but still can't bring myself to buy it. Maybe I should get a sample, but I have sales-clerk-anxiety issues lol.

  5. They're such a luxe brand! I think their Cleansing Balm really put them out on the market. Definitely get a sample as it really depends on your skin type. I've heard that people with drier skin actually disliked it. Don't worry, most SAs are super nice and think about this: there are samples for a reason. ;-)

  6. Perfect indeed! RMS Beauty is one of my fave natural make up brands. They're such high quality and just deliver. If you don't have any allergies/get bad reactions from Coconut Oil, go for it!
