Excusez-moi for posting this review so late. It has been so hectic lately with life, school, just everything! My landlord is basically becoming more of an ass (apologies for the language), twitter followers might know what I’m referring to. I’ve just been given the assignment two days ago to conduct a huge research and hand it in within 2 weeks – the lecturer “forgot to tell us about it”. Yeah, right. Thanks. Goodness, and then not to talk about the presentations, report deadlines, readings (with readings I mean a book per class), meetings, and just general homework. To sum it up: I’m trying to organize my life and time a bit better, because I barely can finish all the assignments/readings on time. And to make that all even worse, I seriously have been feeling horrible. My back is aching, my throat/ears/head ache as well. I think I’m getting the flu or the cold, big time.
But yes, today I’m finally going to compare two versions of the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizers (TMs), the regular and oil-free version. For those that haven’t heard from Laura Mercier TMs, which I don’t suppose, a short description of what the product is and does.
“This sheer, lightweight formula moisturizes the skin softening fine, dry lines, while adding a smooth, healthy glow to your complexion leaving a natural, dewy finish. Providing broad spectrum SPF 20 UVA/UVB sunscreen protection from the harmful, damaging rays of the sun, Tinted Moisturizer features an antioxidant vitamin complex that acts a free radical scavenger to protect the skin from even the most aggressive effects of the environment. Perfect for all skin types, Tinted Moisturizer is extremely long-wearing and remains colour true.”
I’d like to first tell you a bit more about my skin, as it might have different effects on your skin type. I’m a combination skin girl, my skin tends to get shiny very fast, always use my Urban Decay All Nighter Spray on everything, suffer from hyper pigmentation, and luckily survived the many years of acne, and have been recovering from that.
So let’s put it out here first, if you happen to either like medium-full coverage or want to cover up your acne/acne scarring, then don’t buy this product. I intentionally bought it when I was 15, because I had heard so many great things about it. That time I was suffering from real bad acne, and yeah… when I tried it, I was so disappointed. If you happen to like light coverage, have good skin or don’t mind some minor scarring/hyperpigmentation to show through, then read on!
I don’t know if it’s just me, but the shades differ quite in the formulas. Now I have only tried the oil-free and regular one, and have both in shade ‘Nude’. Strangely the oil-free formula is a bit darker than the regular version. I always use the oil-free in end of spring/begin summer, and the regular one during mid autumn/winter because of that reason. Also I find the oil-free version oxidizes more than the regular version, why? I have no clue. The oxidation is not that bad, but it’s just more noticeable than the regular formula.
The consistency of the oil-free version is thicker, thus a bit more difficult to blend. Having a thicker consistency, also means that the coverage is slightly heavier, but nothing compared to a foundation or BB cream. I do powder the t-zone, and top it off with my ‘All Nighter Spray’ like I mentioned before, but both formulas still make my t-zone oily after a few hours wear, especially when hurrying to the metro, standing there in the heat. I tend to blot when I arrive at school, and then it stays pretty much the same until I leave school (a good 4 hours).
What I really dislike about both products is the packaging. Sure it’s a tube, easy to store and bring with, but when it’s a new one… The product tends to get out of the product very easily, making it a big, disgusting mess. So Laura Mercier, if you read this: please find a way to make the product stay in the tube, and not out of it, thanks!
I guess the image above explains it all. I did not even squeeze in the tube
and it literally was dripping out of the tube already 🙁
If you’re expecting something that won’t budge at all during the entire day, then you might want to try BB creams or another TM, because this one won’t fulfil your needs then. Both TMs provide a very healthy finish and this is the thing I’ve been using daily. I only add a bit of concealer (Laura Mercier Undercover pot) for some redness, and hyper pigmentation that shows through a bit. Have been wearing it in a FOTD as well for reference.
Apologies for the very long review dolls! Now I will go and take a hot shower, take some medication, and curl up in my bed. Hope this was helpful for those that have been deciding whether to buy this, or which formula to take! I do recommend getting shade matched, and if that is not possible, try to look at as many different swatches online as possible!
If you have anything else you’d like to know about this product let me know!
