The Sun’s Here (For Now)

O.M.G. I can’t remember the last time when it was nice and sunny out for longer than 2 hours in England. It probably doesn’t help that I’m up north, but there are plans in the works to move back to London after graduation, which is soon! Anyways, going back to topic: I think summer’s finally come! When I think summer; I think beach, tan and shades. As there’s zero chance of me visiting a beach this summer (damn you, dissertation!), a slightly higher chance of me developing a natural tan, I’ve just put all my focus on finding the perfect pair of new shades. I’m not too picky, yet it is so difficult to find a pair that suits my face and doesn’t look ridiculous on. Though I think Oliver Peoples may have hit the mark about just right this time.

Oliver Peoples is an American brand that specialises in fashionable and high quality eyewear. Though rather renowned – the founder was one of the first eyewear designers part of the CFDA – it only popped up on my radar when they collaborated with niche fragrance brand By Redo earlier this year. Its simplistic design paired with this sense of ‘cool’ just nudges me in the right places. It has such a wide range of designs and styles that there’s something for everyone. I love that their frames are big enough to not make my face look huge and like I’m swallowing them, yet small enough without looking like I’m trying to hide behind the frames.

They are definitely a luxury item and way over my usual budget. I normally stray away from expensive sunglasses, as I’m notorious for losing them. (Or miraculously breaking a pair). However, I feel like now I’m older, I should be more capable of looking after my shades without ruining them. I know it’s not always the case, but in terms of sunglasses I do believe that you get what you pay for. Especially very important in terms of UV protection! Also, I still have my last pair of sunglasses. Still one piece and not yet vanished into a big black hole. Yet. OK, let’s not jinx this right now…
