Why Summer Fridays’ Jet Lag Mask Is A Jetsetter’s Godsend

In the past year I've travelled more than I ever done before. Heck, I visited 7 countries over the course of 10 months and my skin was showing it.

Massively dehydrated, parched, patchy and just... dull. The opposite of the dewy and luminous 'glass-like' skin that I should be having at the age of 25.

In comes my go-to travel buddy who generously treated me to Summer Fridays' coveted Jet Lag Mask from her L.A trip and I can't remember the last time I loved a mask this much.

What is it?

Since its release earlier this year, the overnight mask instantly got a massive following on Instagram and the beauty community.

Apparently sold out in 15 minutes in the UK and US, it's been loved by those who were lucky enough to snag one and coveted by those who missed their chance. Lucky for us, it seems to have been restocked everywhere.

Packed with all the good stuff and none of the bad, the mask claims to be a one-stop-shop to fix dehydrated, stressed & tired skin.

It's free of phthalates, surfactants, petrolatum, BHT, BHA and silicones, making it great for the most sensitive skins.

How to use it

You apply a generous layer to your dry face after cleansing, which is perfect for those lazy nights, as you really don't need to do anything else in your routine.

Once applied, you can either kick back and start your Netflix binge or get ready for bed to let the mask do its magic overnight. It doesn't tighten or is overly sticky, making it very comfortable to wear.

If you're in a rush, you can leave it on as a 10 minute express mask and wipe off its excess (important to not rinse it off!). Alternatively, you can massage a thin layer onto the skin to use it as a hydrating primer as well.

The results

The next day, my skin looks and feels plump, brighter and much calmer. It's like the comfort of wearing a chunky soft knit knowing that it'll protect you from the cold outside.

So whenever I can feel my skin getting a bit drier, grey or like a breakout is forming, I slap this on generously.

Is it right for my skin type?

With my combination-oily skin that is very sensitive to breakouts, overnight masks always make me slightly anxious. The Jet Lag Mask is probably the one of the few that actually leaves my skin looking better without having to deal with whiteheads at the same time.

The reason why the mask lives up to its name – and fame – is due to its key ingredients: Chestnut Extract, Vitamin C and Niacinimide.

Chestnut Extract is a natural exfoliant, gently sloughing away those dead skin cells that dull your complexion, to reveal dewy, well-rested and healthy skin. Vitamin C is an antioxidant protecting the skin from free radicals, brightens the skin and makes it easier to hold onto moisture.

And as a acne-prode gal, Niacinimide is probably my favourite ingredient in here, which helps to reduce the look of pores, fine lines and keeps those breakouts at bay.

So here it is, my go-to overnight skin fix if I feel like my skin needs a bit more TLC or if I'm just too lazy to layer serums and creams. Hey, it's tiring pretending to be an adult okay?
